Burnsy - are the sort that could start a fight with yourself? Lets not draw a line under the finances - we got Brexit because people refused to engage with reality and the Americans got Trump - i don't want the club i have followed for the better part of 57 yrs to implode to pander to your ill informed views Yes - this years accounts are not available and we don't have all the detail - but as an accountant i can draw a pretty accurate line from the last published balance sheet to the likely current situation and in a nutshell - we can survive with parachute money and player sales but we can't bet the farm on promotion - the cost of that 96th minute winner for Villa was probably up to a decade of rebuilding plus £200m+ - add to that a trading environment with next to no matchday revenue for the a while and an owner without Oligarch / Enir of Kuwait resources and hopefully even you can smell the coffee None of your Brexity "we are all entitled to an opinion BS" - no you aren't if you either can't switch your brain on or refuse to do so
I can't believe we're willing to sell Sarr on the cheap. We'll live to regret this. https://twitter.com/AdamLeventhal/status/1299640564204347435 Adam Leventhal @AdamLeventhal Understood that #watfordfc have this morning reluctanctly accepted a cut price bid in region of £20m for Ismaila Sarr. Contractual negotiations now on the way. More on @TheAthleticUK
If this is true it’s embarrassing and alarming. It suggests our financial problems are very substantial. So I’m very much hoping it’s not.
We were always going to sell him. He's a player who would thrive in a top 6 team. He's not going to want to play in the Championship, and we have learnt our lesson regarding keeping unhappy players in the squad. However 20m makes no sense. We could probably loan him out for 5 million and still get at least 20m for him next season. I don't believe it will be that low, unless there is some sort of clause in his contract, or the club know something about him that we don't.
*Ding dong* Paging @The Whoosh Magnet to the Ismalia Sarr thread. That's Whoosh Magnet to the Sarr thread. Thank you.
It’s amazing how many accountants are on this page. And what on Earth has Brexit got to do with anything?! Bizarre. Someone said Liverpool have got no money. I responded to that as I find it quite incorrect. That’s allowed no? Or is debate not allowed? What ‘ill-informed views’ are you referencing? Because I can bet you I didn’t make them. Quite remarkable that you’ve accused me of starting arguments when all I’ve done is respond to people with an opposing view or opinion. Yet you yourself have taken it upon yourself to message me suggesting I’ve said things I haven’t said - I never ever said we should bet the house on going up. Nothing like it. Feel free to check.
nah you misheard, thats just for the pinky on his left foot. gino wants 40m for the left leg, and a further 20m for the right leg.
Easy I cited Trump and Brexit and stand by it We have a cohort in the population and in the subset of that that is our fan base when views are formed without consideration of reality My analogy is that Burnsy, who seems to have no time for the financially obvious nevertheless spouts a view he cannot support I give you Farage and pretty much all of the centre of the United States as analogous - bear in mind that the definition of analogy is that it is similar rather than the same
And I’ve asked you to relay back to me the view you think I hold? Because I am certain you’re mistaken. As yet you’ve failed to do so. You’re making yourself look foolish by spouting nonsense about Farage, Brexit and Trump. If you head to the politics section and do a small amount of digging, you’ll see my views on all of them. But please continue you’re incoherent ramble. I haven’t spouted ANYTHING about our financial situation. I asked just yesterday about accounts etc because I did not know. I’ve stated plenty that I think some players will have to go whilst we should do what we can to retain others if possible and within means - that’s where my analysis has begun and ended. So you’re claiming to read in between the lines and getting yourself confused.
Great, now a WFC Finances thread of its own, well done. It's a very interesting debate to follow, and deserves its own thread. Sarr, you can come back and follow it now.
A very high-brow debate, but has anyone factored in the recent A level results crisis and how that might impact on our finances?
Given that no one wants Sarr to leave, and the only reason he would/should be allowed to is if the financial position of the club requires it, it's pretty relevant don't you think?
It's directly relevant though. How can you have a discussion about the potential transfer of a player everyone agrees we would rather not sell if we didn't have to, unless you have an understanding of whether we actually need to? You can't really discuss how appropriate you feel a transfer fee is at all without that context, so we'd just be talking about whether it made sense which club Sarr happened to be going to. And quite frankly as there is no benefit to us at all without a transfer fee how much do we really care?
You could make the same reasoning that pretty much every outgoing transfer thread should follow the same theme, then? I'd imagine most people click on the thread to see updates about whether Sarr is staying or leaving, not to see people bickering about the minutiae of the financial accounts of the club, which is mostly guesswork anyway.
