Back with the squad? Or does it look like "Auf Wiedersehen?" for the blonde bomber?

    Time will tell.

He was told he could leave and didn't need to go.

last I had heard was the club were back tracking and wanted him to stay.

So its up to darius now, personally if I was him i would be off after the way he has been treated.

The article must be Henderson. A player should feel wanted and you can certainly not blame him if he was to leave. He will more than likely take the place of Nugent at PNE at be a first choice player, whilst here, he will just be a squad player, behind King and Priskin in the running order.

How much do you reckon we are looking at? Just over a million?

If we had got H.H i wouldn't have been against the move, but we haven't and so Hendo, regardless of he how he did last season, would have been a very important player this year. Big mistake in letting him go (especially if it is on the cheap side) because we wont get anyone much better than him now.

Have to agree with that. A stupid move, as not only does it deprive us of him but it allows one of our league rivals to have him :dismay:

Don't be too suprised if that player is LEON BARNETT from scum.

He's been linked with Preston, Watford and WBA over the weekend.

I'm not doing a Doug and saying it's DEFINATLEY Barnett, but it could be.

If he leaves for PNE you just know it's going to come back to haunt us. Scoring in front of the Rookery and giving it large....and who can blame him!

I would. It's nothing to do with the majority of the fans that he's off.

    - We have a proven Championship striker who scored 15 goals last time around.
    - He is the only target man type of player in our squad.
    - We're about to let one of our division rivals have him for probably somewhere around £1M.

This has "STUPIDITY" written all over it. :dismay:

    Exactly!

If I was Henderson I'd run upto the Watford bench and flick the bird at Boothroyd! There is no doubt he's been treated like a c**t.

How fickle poeple are. Henderson is an average player. We have alot of strikers and if Aidy wants to sell him then that says alot about the football we will be playing next year. If he is surplus then let him leave, I for one won't shed a tear.

Don`t agree - average players in this league don`t have Hendo`s strike rate!

We also don`t unfortunately have another physical striker who can create gaps for team mates to enable them to score.

Consider what Marlon`s strike rate would have been without Hendo.

He is also not surplus which is why the club realize they have made a serious error in selling him before they have an adequate replacement.

Aidy may be good at selling players, but he is not so adept at buying them.

Preston have had a bid accepted for an unnamed player and Paul Simpson is hopeful of completing the deal.

Skysports.com revealed last week that Simpson was targeting Darius Henderson, and it is understood the Watford striker is the mystery man.

Preston are currently on a pre-season trip to America and Simpson has revealed he moved for the player prior to jetting out.

Simpson is confident the deal will be done on the club's return to England, although personal terms have still to be agreed with the player.

"We had a bid accepted the weekend before we came out here, and we've already talked to the player," he told the club's official website.

"He is currently still training with his club back in England and thinking over the offer we have put to him

So over 40 games and 3 goals makes Darius a great player does it?

Yes he played well last time we were in the championship. Yes i like the amount of effort he puts in, but i really do question his abilty as whole.

I honestly think we would see alot better quality of football player this season without him in the side.

lol it has nothing to do with our style of play, why did we try and sign H, we are f***d without a target man, i think you are slightly dissilusioned.

Of course that is your opinion, calling be "dissilusioned" because i have mine is a bit childish isn't it?

It has alot to do with our style of play. Not every team HAS to have a target man. The best football we played last time we were in the championship was on the couter attack. With Smith, Bouazza and Mcanuff on the wings and Priskin and King up front we could be awesome.

But i suppose you would rather watch a good old game of hoofball........

  23. orns4life

    orns4life Squad Player

i wouldn't take the dissilusioned bit too personally. I don't think it has much to do with our style of play, we are trying to strengthen our squad which is why boothroyd tried to get HH in place of hendo, replacing a player with a "very similar style but better at it" player. At Borehamwood on saturday every time their goalie got the ball or had a goal kick he was looking to take it quick to full back, poom and lee would both wave everyone forward and play it long to king or priskin who didn't have a great sucess rate in winning headers, i know you shouldn't look too much into a pre season friendly but its obviously what they are being told to do and are doing in training, if you think we are going to change our direct style of play next year i think you will be dissapointed.

Darave, I agree with you r.e. Henderson and hoof ball...however this isn't the issue I have...my issue is how the club have treated Henderson by telling him he's not required, and now having missed out on Helguson Aidy is on his knees begging him to stay!

Can't blame Hendo if he goes!

    Hendo is a Goal Machine!

Average players IN THIS LEAGUE don`t have his strike rate.

Not only is he a great player in the championship (why do you think two promotion contenders - Sheff Utd & PNE want him so badly) - the guy is a `goal machine`!

103 football league career appearances 44 goals = £1.3 million too cheap - keep him.

  26. Aberystwyth_Hornet

At least Aidy was honest with Hendo and admitted he wasn't part of his first team plans, imo if we had signed a new striker (like we all hoped we would) Hendo wouldn't have been higher than 3rd/4th in most peoples minds. I wanted him to stay as 3rd/4th choice as most did, but Hendo might have spoken to Aidy and said he wanted first team football. The way to deal with the situation is what Fergie has done with Alan Smith - don't sell (accept bids) or comment on current players availability until you have signed the replacement

If i'd been treated the way it appears Hendo has and i could get myself a few quid in the bank by leaving , I would be off.

Without wishing to pass judgement on the apparent treatment of Henderson, if indeed he does depart, from a purely footballing point of view I think we will be far better without playing to a target man.
With our wingers and with Marlon and Priskin both mobile strikers, I think not playing with a target man will produce far more goals and more entertaining football. With Boozer likely to be staying at least until the January transfer window I think Henderson is better off at pastures new and don't feel it is the disaster being portrayed by many people.

Pure football doesn't get you out of the Championship though. You need the clogger in and around the box making the defenders know they're in a battle, working space for his strike partner and, from time to time, even heading the ball towards goal. I'm not sure we have anyone else in the squad currently who can do what Hendo does at this level.

I don't know why people are worried about Henderson going, all we have to do is put Carlisle or Shittu up there, that has always worked well in the past:rolleyes:

I still have knightmares about that and I honestly think that after watching Saturday's game, we will play the similar way but look to Priskin to win the headers and develop his game that way (not too sure about this myself but that seemed to be the way we were playing).

I think you'll find Priskin much improved in the air and with the players we have no reason we can't win the division playing good entertaining football and lets get rid of the hoof it tag once and for all.

The spectre of Shittu coming on to play upfront last year with Priskin left on the bench stills haunts me though...if Hendo goes I think it's imperative to sign a similar replacement, if only to give a different option to Priskin/King et al.

Playing to feet is all well and good, but there are bound to be times this season where we are going to need a strong physical presence up front in this league.

Totally agree with that, my concern is that we don't just completely dismiss the style that took us up to the Premiership in the first place, it's beneficial to have both in our locker as it were.

Has everyone forgotten that when we played 4-5-1 a couple of seasons ago, it only worked when King was the 1? Suggests to me that Hendo needs someone alongside him more than vice versa.

Still think we should keep him, but how many of his 15 goals were out & out "big striker" goals?
