Warnock is saying that David Nugent is grossly overpriced at £6mil. Is it just a case of sour grapes or is his assessment correct. I believe that most English players are overpriced (except Ash) compared to foreign players both in terms of fees and wages.
You can always get someone to do a similar job cheaper from abroad due to the increased choice you have when looking worldwide instead of just inside your country.
Okay I didn't really explain myself very well. What I meant is that if you go abroad, you have a larger player base to choose from. Just looking at English players, the player base is smaller and hence the prices can get inflated. Whereas outside of the UK, if a player's price is inflated, you can still find someone in another country whose price is not. I was trying to make the point that the larger amount of players abroad increases the competition and keeps the prices lower.
I think there are other factors such as not all Foreign Clubs are awash with money and will settle for less and the players see any foothold in the UK as a passport to financial Utopia even if they earn less than their UK counterparts.
I bet Tamas Priskin is one of the lowest earners in the squad yet is extremely happy with a deal which is no times many times more than he could earn playing midtable top league football in Hungary.
I do agree with Colin for once but somebody will pay it though in the summer. Young potential do seem to get overpriced by their clubs which you can understand. Is Ash really worth 7-9 million?
Nugent is horribly overpriced, and so is Young. I'd valeu Young at £5M tops and the same with Nugent. PNE seem to be holding out for something silly and they aren't going to get it.
PNE know they have a good chance of promotion and he's still well in contract. If they sell him their goals could dry up and it's goodbye £30m for promotion. Why risk that for £6m from Colin?
That is a good point, there is no point in sacrificing the chance of playing in the Premiership for £6m now.
Another reason for UK players commanding higher fees is that they have already proved they can cut it in the English game. How many foreigners who are said to be "marvellous footballers" sink without trace because they can't adapt to: style of play weather language non-stop physicality of all English football food etc etc
