That's a tricky one, my inital reaction would be no one else but it's a complicated story how I became a Watford fan.

I freely admit I came late to the Watford fold, my boyfriend, when I was 19 took me to my first live football match at Watford and I loved it before that I didn't even watch England games (went to a posh school, we didn't play football there.)

Gets even more complicated by the fact he started supporting watford aged 7 when he saw them in the FA cup final and decided to start supporting them because he really liked their kit.

So if (god forbid) there was no Watford he may have supported whoever else played against Everton in the final if he liked the kit or he may have sucumbed to his local side which was Millwall.

But i doubt I'd have supported Millwall, too scary

My Dad was (and still is) West Ham. He took me to a few games when I was a kid but I never took to them or anyone we saw, Chelsea, Spurs etc. He also played a few first team games for Wealdstone so I went there a few times but never got the bug. At school when Arsenal won the cup I felt myself moving that way and me and a few mates went up to Highbury 3 or 4 times. Then one day I was taken to watch the Horns, (by my uncle I think), and it was like discovering what I'd been missing all those years. Instant love!

So if not for my uncle I'd have probably become a gooner

I would have to say either West Ham or QPR most likely QPR though, as when I was at the age I started to support Watford (1972 i was 6) QPR was the team of choice as they were one of the best teams of the day.
However... fortunately Watford Do have a team and as I was living in Northwood at that time they were the team for me.

Thats not the way to play!!! lmao
None of us have any other allegiances.
So your saying if watford never had a team you wouldnt have liked football at all?
Yours was one of the answers i was looking forward to reading most.

  8. my local team is cambridge united or alternatively cambridge city. however the scene is not very strong and most fans are either very young or very old. i don't think i would go to football because no other club has as strong a base as watford, despite the lack of facilities and the recent attitude of the board to minorities and their needs.

hmmm.... well, I used to supoprt man u when i was a teenager (who didnt?!?!) but it was because I loved Take That... but I actually really did get into the football. Then I got over the hormones, and didn't really 'do' football except for Engerland. Like Faith, my ex took me to my first Watford game and I loved it, so I guess it would be whoever he supported....but I don't know who that would be! I'm from Plymouth, so maybe I would be an Argyle fan.... I shudder to think what we would do without the horns!

Only when they are your boyfriend! they get better once you break up;D

I still see mine and we still go to football together, we've been to 3 games this season and are planning on going to Newcastle and Liverpool together too, assuming he can get tickets as he has a different membership to me (his is not as good as mine;) )

The one thing I wonder about Watford men is where are all the good looking ones:eek:

mine immediately started taking his new girlfriend to games even though she is a ***, and made it impossible for me to go. hence me not renewing my season ticket for this season, and constanly kicking myself cos i can never get to games now. apart from away games like man city at 8pm on a monday night...... :(

  32. berkshirehorn

    berkshirehorn presumably I upset/disappointed someone

i saw my first watford game when i was 13, my second when i was 14, that was in 1967 and 1969. Up to then my brother and i were ardent spurs fans despite never going to see them. we kept scrapbooks, were in the supporters club, work kits, badges etc. Spurs did have a great side then, greaves, gilzean, england, mackay, jennings etc. So if there had never been a watford i guess i would eventually have gone to the lane and been a spurs fan.

but after i saw rodney green bag two against Crewe in a 4-0 tonking there was never ever any chance of there being anyone but the horns.

i would like to think i would be a wycombe fan as they are my local team, but i may have ended up as a gloryhunter and taken the easy option of a premiership club.

and as this post is getting a bit girly, lets talk about .....err....cars or something.
