What positions will we need to strenghen?

IMO we would need a Right-back, Centre-back, Left-back, Centre-Mid,and a Left-mid (if Jobi doesnt pick up some amazing form)

Also if we go up were going to have spend some serious cash on big names.

    yes

    Poom is good enough IMO

Doyley is good but could do with better competition

DeMerit struggled last season and needs better competition

Shittu had a good season so he would stay in the team for me

    Stewart definately needs competition

Smith played very well last season and should stay in the team

Mahon needs replacing with a makelele type player

Williamson will be a good squad player and should have good competition in that attacking mid role already with Francis,Williams and Rinaldi

McAnuff is abit off form at the moment and we could do with keeping Johnson

    King is good enough IMO

Henderson and Ellington should be enough but if they dont impress for more of the season then we will need a real big name front man to support King

To be honest I doubt we could ever spend enough to stay up...without a lot of luck this time.

Sadly it will always be that way...Birmingham and the Black Cats have spent a bit but are still down in the relegation mire whilst Derby are worse than us.

Sadly the Premiership teams will only get richer and the rest weaker.

The style of play needs to change!

    '3-0 to the football team'

I still shudder with embarrasment now...

A new keeper with Poom and Lee as back up

    A new right back

2 new centre backs so that we have lots of competition

    2 new left backs

a new right and left winger

2 new centre midifeld - Gav's last season and O'Toole is still very young

    1 new forward

thats 11 new players ! a whole team - WOW - i'm not suggesting replacing them all, but we need serious competition and players that can play at that level if called upon

it would though be bye bye to a few

    Stewart,
    Jackson
    Anvile
Bangura ( just my opinion that he isn't going to make it )
    Macca
    Priskin
    Hoskins
    Kabba
    Gav - his last year

To be honnest I can't see any of these making it in the premiership, so if we go up lets let them move on so we can get better in

As long as Boothroyd is at the club, we won't change our style. Whether or not that is a good thing depends on how well we do if/when we get promoted. I have no problem with us playing hoofball but we need a bit more flair in the team if we want to survive in the Premiership. That means we need a creative midfielder, a quality striker alongside Marlon (Hendo isnt good enough for prem unfortuantly) and a top quality winger.

It all comes down to if we can attract players to the club. Unfortuantly all our negative press is going to have a big affect on attracting players to the club.

The foreign market would have to be our main target.

I think you all over-estimate the Premiership.

Besides, we won't sign 11 new players, and nor would I want us too.

The Reading side that went up was barely changed, and remains with a large chunk of their promotion side battling it out now.

Players develop over time. Buying a couple of big names is likely not the answer, a) because big names wouldn't come here, and if you think they would you are wholly delusional and b) we would end up like Forest.

We haven't seen anywhere near what the current bunch of players can really do. Muff, Ellington, Rinaldi, Francis, Williams, Hoskins, even O'toole and Priskin to an extent have not had any kind of extended time in the first team - and you have to be an extremely arrogant person to dismiss people who haven't played a good few months on the trot at least.

The key for me is that we keep directness, because it is effective, but have the ability to do more than just cross balls into the box and steamroller stuff in. We have the players to do that, it just seems they either are told not too or don't have the confidence to.

We have seen what we can do when we mix it up, but unfortunately we only play like that for a half hour a game, and while we usually get goals during that time, when we don't we end up with a West Brom. Though they were lucky.

very good post and I to an extent(sp?) agree but we have to get rid of the players that arent good enough for the prem.Players like Mahon,Kabba,McNamee etc. but when doing that we lose just abit of depth that needs to be replaced with players that our going to push the 1st choice rather not get a game(although Mahon somehow gets into the team).

Erm, aren't you the one suggesting that Poom should be our number 1 next season?

  15. nak108

    nak108 International Captain

yes IMO hes good enough, hes done nothing wrong this season and has the expirience for the prem and is a brilliant shot stopper and catcher(or puncher) of the ball.

He is a good 'keeper, but no way will he be the standard we need in the prem, he is no where near as good as Foster and even for all his heroics he couldn't save us last time round. Also, he may well be a good 'catcher', but that's no good if he never comes off his line is it?

whenever ive seen him play he comes off his line alot

The problem we have got if we go up, we have a handful of players who can play and hold down a place week in week out.

If we had a whole team already then we would have received offers for them after relegation.

The players we know COULD play at that level are DeMerit, Shittu, Johnson, Marlon and possibly Ellington. That’s 5, less than half a team, and Johnson isn't even ours !

I truly believe that we have many players who would be good premiership squad players, who given time could be week in week out premiership players; players who need to develop in that environment. Doyley, McNuff, Lee, Rinaldi, Smith, O'Toole for example.

OK so there is now 11 players who can play week in week out or be part of a premiership squad - we would still 11 more to make the squad competitive. Don't forget we are likely to lose Mahon and Stewart at the end of the season, along with Macca, Kabba & Jackson.

A lot of these 11 I am suggesting are replacing what will be leaving. We will still have the likes of O'Toole, Osborne, Parks, Robinson, Tiggy, Loach and Liam Henderson about developing with others in a premiership squad.

We MUST have players of an ability that if we need to make two or three changes we aren't weakened by more than 10%.

There's no arrogance about it, its fact. If you want to compete at that level and push on then you need better quality players. The team has picked it's self with very little competition at championship level we cannot afford to go do that in the premiership.

Have to agree with Nak... He does come off his line. Infact NathWFC is an idiot for thinking he doesn't... Here's the proof..
