I think you need to assess why you object to these feelings so strongly. Maybe this is due to a deep down recollection of being unloved by your first pet, were you bitten by a goldfish perchance? Maybe you are feeling insecure and are worried at the competition for attention from the said animals that another predatory male could attract.
