Not saying they shouldn't mourn it but scousers need to just mourn it and move on, stupid how long this has gone on, nobody in liverpool buys the sun as it said at the hillsbrough disaster liverpool fans were nicking from dead peoples pockets i believe.

found out a bit more about it. 96 died. the sun wrote an article blaming liverpool fans for hillsborough saying that theyd urinated on policemen and generally blaming the scousers. "justice for the 96" is what they sang. Presumably the lying ******* is the guy who wrot the article.

Starting with Saturday’s tie against Arsenal, the first 6 minutes of every F.A Cup tie will commemorate the Hillsborough 96, their families, and the ongoing plight for Justice. For 6 minutes, raise the roof with songs for the 96, songs of Truth - and songs of unrestrained at Kelvin Mackenzie, shameless perpetrator of shabby lies.

Saturday 6th January will be an official RTK flag day – Any JUSTICE banners and flags you have, bring them! Any banners at all (KFS compliant), bring them! The game is live on the BBC and the perfect opportunity to raise awareness of the fight for Justice, as well and letting the world know we’re still the greatest fans about. It’s time to make ourselves seen and time to make ourselves heard.”

Kelvin MacKenzie recently reiterated his (and The Sun's) view that the disaster was caused by Liverpool fans and said he only apologised because he was forced too. The Liverpool fans are angry that the BBC gave him a show to host over the Christmas period.

I don't know why they were singing it at Vicarage Road in the league though!

They also have a massive campaign to get the Liverpool lad who got sent to jail in Turkey for an assult after their European Cup win freed...seems the Liverpool fans like a protest or two!

That's a bit heartless and given the complaints I see on here every week about bad policing and stewarding, really rather hypocritical. The disaster was caused by the police who badly managed the situation and then tried to blame everyone else for it.

I'm fully behind the scousers and any campaign to vilify the despicable KM, his former newspaper, employer and everything they stand for.

    Justice for the 96

The Hillsboro Tragedy is something that still causes great hurt and pain with everyone involved with Liverpool Football Club. It is something that also causes great debate outside Liverpool amongst fans of other clubs.

On Monday 17th April 1989 the Sun newspaper printed headlines on the front page that read 'The Truth'. The article went on to say that whilst fans were dying at the Leppings Lane of the Hillsboro ground, fellow supporters were
    1. Picking the pockets of the dead.
    2. Attacking police officers who were giving the kiss of life to injured fans.
    3. Urinating on dead bodies.

The editor of the paper at the time was Kelvin Mckenzie. The article caused outrage on Merseyside and resulted in a total boycott of the paper in Liverpool which continues to this day.

In the inquest to the deaths of the 96 fans the judge made 3.30 pm a 'cut off' point, meaning that all 96 deaths occured before this time, a conclusion that has been questioned and subsequently proved untrue, yet no new inquests have followed.

The 'justice' that the families want is for someone to just come out and tell the whole truth as to what happened on the day regarding crowd control and stewarding and subsequent reaction as the disaster unfolded.
A combination of factors occurred on the day that resulted in several thousand Liverpool fans arriving at the stadium very late. It is a common misconception that ALL these fans were drunk and aggresive, this just wasn't the case. I'm not denying that fans hadn't been drinking, I defy anyone to name a group of fans who don't go for a drink before a game especially a cup semi-final, but along with these there were hundreds who had only just got to the game because of major traffic problems at Stockport, (the most straight forward route at the time between Liverpool and Sheffield).
It was decided that a large Exit gate should be opened to relieve the crush outside the ground, this turned out to be a fatal error becuase all the fans that then poured into the ground headed straight for the tunnel that led to the central pens, which were already full to bursting. The game was already underway at this point.
All the police officers who were in positions of authority regarding crowd control on the day 'retired' from the force over the next few months, thus eliminating themselves from any possible future disciplinary procedures and even prosecution.

Despite it being the 18th anniversary of the disaster this year, the fight for the families right to the truth goes on and we won't go away lightly.
The reason for the big demo last week was because the BBC have recently appointed Kelvin Mckenzie (the sun editor at the time) in a senior position at the company and the FA Cup game was live on BBC1. It lasted six minutes because that was how old the game was before it was abandoned.

I was there that day and although I wasn't related to any of the 96 who lost their lives it felt like I'd lost 96 brothers and sisters and it still haunts me to this day, seeing a young lad of no more than ten years old screaming at his dead father to wake up was just one of many horrific scenes on that day. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. All I saw as the disaster was unfolding was heroism of the highest order by fellow supporters, rival supporters, stewards, St Johns ambulance volunteers and police officers alike.Fans ripped down advertising boards and used them as makeshift stretchers to carry the injured to an array of waiting ambulances at the far end of the ground, ordinary people performing the kiss of life to fellow fans. No sign of the alleged actions that were reported in the Sun.

As I said earlier, all the families want is the truth about how their sons, daughters, fathers, sons, husbands and wives were unable to come home from a football match on 15th April 1989.

If any of you visit Anfield in the future, pop in to the Hillsboro family support groups' shop just opposite the Kop end, you can buy all sorts of memorabilia and all proceeds go to the familys fight for justice.

    Justice for the 96. RIP.

I think the issue here is a bit of a generation gap Roadend. I'm 20 so would have been nearly 3 at the time of Hillsbrough. I personally know a bit about it because as a law student lets just say the repercussions led to a lot of important civil law precedents.

But a lot of folk don't. You have a whole generation of guys my age and slightly younger now going to football in their own right, without the need for parents to be there. We've grown up in an age of all-seater stadia and almost over-organised matchday considerations from the police and other groups. What happened that day is worlds apart from the situation at football now - so it's kinda difficult to appreciate it could and did actually happen. One of the younger lads higher up this post had to look up what it even was! That really shows how distant the those events really are.

My personal opinion is pretty blunt: the past should be left to lie. We're so far along now any credible witnesses for inquiries are either dead or too old to be of any use. Time also has a way of distorting the memory. No good would come from it really. I understand the families will never accept that - and why should they? If anyone should fight on, they should. Doesn't mean any good will come of it though.

Scousers have a bad reputation and we all take the P**s, however the Hillsborough disaster is something completely different.

Thank you Roadendscally for your post. The true supporters are right behind the scousers on this one. A shocking cover up on a large scale. I work with a Liverpool fan who was there on the day and he won't talk about it. The only time he started to mention Hillsborough after a few pints he broke down.

Chewitt & jobr seem like top notch blokes but hey lads imagine if it were Hornets at a semi and this happend ?

I completely agree with you regarding there being a generation gap but its these fans who seem to throw there twopenneth worth in without really knowing what went on.
As for regarding the witnesses would now either be too old or dead, all the evidence has been submitted already by many of these people but for some reason only selective pieces were admitted as evidence in the inquests. Even the tape recordings from the CCTV cameras on the day that were pointing right onto the Leppings lane terrace were 'Lost'. Numerous Doctors and medical professionals gave evidence confirming many of the fans were still alive up to an hour after the 'cut off point' but none of this was admissable. Why?
It is this that really upsets the families.

I posted the message earlier so as to shed some light on the question asked by the fan who started this thread in the first place, so I hope I've been able to explain just what the protest is about. Like it or not, the campaign will go on.

RES I wholeheartedly support yours and other LFC fans right to protest, my father supports liverpool and although I was only 11 at the time because of my father I knew what had happened, and it is a memory that haunts him too.

It easy for youngsters not to know or for people who were not affected to forget just how horrific that day was. Thank you for taking the time to write out your post as a reminder for those who have forgotten/ who did not know what Hillsboro means.

Bit surprised by some of the comments on here and unconvinced by the generation gap idea. Anyone old enough to remember the tragedy will never forget it but there has been a lot of coverage for younger people including a reasonably recent dramatisation on telly to "catch up". At the time, Heysel and Bradford were still fresh in the memory and it was all so awful. I'd never read that rag the Sun anyway but that scandelous piece called "the truth" was unforgiveable and anyone associated with it should be very ashamed.

You can't use the generation gap excuse. If you don't know what happened then don't comment until you find out.

It's one of those days where I remember where I was - in the company box at Newbury racecourse doing some corporate enteraining, including a few scousers. When it came on the TV we watched in horror.

All you young lads who want to stand up so badly and those who are nostalgic for terraces should read some of the reports.

The Sun is a disgusting rag and Murdoch only told Kelvin MacKenzie to apologise because the boycott was so effective. I won't buy anything of Murdoch's at all.

I will always remember watching the carnage on the TV.. like Admin says its something you wont ever forget as a football fan in much the same way i will never forget seeing the twin towers fall on 9-11.
I was fortunate/unfortunate enough to go to ground zero a month or so after it happened and it was still very much rubble and the search for bodies was atill ongoing and it is something i will never in my life forget.
Anyone who thinks that LFC fans, or ANY fans for that matter should "get over it" needs a reality check.. something like that is not something you just get over... imagine if it happened at the vic, and it was people you know.. would you get over it? i dont think so.
Im with the LFC fans on this all the way.

I did and do know what hillsborough was. I jus didnt know about the specifics with "The Truth" article and the whole 96 thing. Or understand why they would drag this up at a league game at vicarage road. I understand now. Except i do agree that it is hard for the younger generation to understand what it must be like espeically considering the first generation of supporters where all they have experienced is all seaters have just started going on their own accord in last few years i would imagine.

I wasn't using it as an excuse. However it is difficult for you older guys who lived through it to understand quite how 'unbelievable' the whole thing is to the younger contingent. I've stood on one terrace in 12 years of supporting Watford. Does that make it clearer for you how far away the football world of 1989 is?

But that's like 'why are all those sad losers wearing poppies? It was a long time ago can't they get over it?' It misses the point altogether.

To be fair i can see where UEA is coming from... but as someone else said think before you type!!
In life not everything is black and white so considering other peoples feelings when it comes to tragic events is all important... dont know about it dont comment on it.
It amazes me that anyone could be some uncompassionate enough to tell anyone to get over such a tragedy that was paramount in changing alot of how we get to watch football these days.
