Says the 'deal' is worth 6.5 so HH could be going the other way.

Nowhere does it state that Helguson is the player going the other way... yet.

ALBION are in talks with Fulham over a deal which could involve Diomansy Kamara joining the London club for £4million with Heidar Helguson coming to The Hawthorns.

Helguson boasts an impressive career record in the Premiership and Championship of 78 goals in 185 starts and 77 substitute appearances, and at international level has scored five times in 38 games for Iceland.

And a move to Craven Cottage would give Kamara, last season's 23-goal top scorer, another crack at the Premiership.

    That's just ruined my weekend

I'm sorry but regardless of what anyone says we need to sign another quality striker and so far it seems we're missing out on everyone as per usual.

    Me too!

There's none left. At least none with the quality and pedigree required who would also join us.

    I can't think of any...

Why can't we just go out and spend some money for once. I can't believe we've let him get away, H and King up front would have been the stuff dreams are made of. This is not good management mr boothroyd.

Looks like we're going back to the usual transfer tactics. We will bring in some unknown foreigners from the Swiss 3rd division, a knife wielding crack addict looking for another chance and one more person whose age is calculated in epochs, not years, who will be signed on a 4 year contract, despite the fact that his doctors can't possibly see him living long enough to see it through.
Then we will begin the season with a load of unsubstantiated optimism and claim that we think we will win the division, when in reality, with the squad we have now, there are at least 6 or seven teams who will be correctly assuming that they are in a stronger position than us.

Whether it's good management is hard to say. You can't force a player here as we saw with CJ. H would have been fantastic but if Foolham had their hearts set on Kamara and sending H was a way to get him, no way would they have sold to us.

For all we know Aidy may have tried Earnie, H, Harewood et al with no luck. To be honest I'd rather he signed no forward than another potential Kabba. As for the Sharps and Eastwoods - we have one already in Hoskins. I doubt we'll get another striker and I think we'll be fine without - if only Aidy gets Claus Jensen in stead.

Rumoured to be in talks with two clubs - it may be us? I'm not sure if he's an improvement on what we have.

    FFS no.

    You must be joking!

Can't see either being more than squad players

Could be worth a gamble. Pederser is in talks with Hull and PNE.

Priskin (once he learns the offside rule) and King will score all the goals we need, Hoskins and Doris will provide adequate cover.

Boozer will chip in with his fair share as will Smith and Williamson .... what is all the fuss about ?????

This is what I was thinking. Why do we need Helguson when we have so many strikers at the club.At the moment we have one of if not the largest squads in the divison.

Because we were in the prem for one season does not mean we can go out and spend silly money.

HH is around 3mill pounds, way over the top IMO,as thats double what we sold him for.

why are some panicking? Earnshaw wanted prem footy and got it,and Helgusons wages would now be alot higher than before.

Ellinghtons wage demands are in the 30k a week bracket, and sorry I dont want players here who think money 1st.

We have a good enough squad at the moment to challenge, and we did it without HH before and can do it again

    Well said.

Its not the end of the world if we do not get another striker.

We have King and Hendo, who both score tons of goals.

We then have 4 strikers who are completely untried. (Kabba not included as he doesn't count as a player IMO)

One of the MUST come good, surely? I have serious doubts about Priskins ability to actually participate in games, but with him, Hoskins, Ashikodi and Robinson all waiting to have a crack, we simply can't have 4 dud players.

And if we do, we should seriously be doubting somebody's transfer choices... :]]

I would not mind signing HH like we did with Luther Blissett..sell him for a mill then buy him back at 500,000

But not buy a player for 2.5mill sell him for 1.3mill then re-buy him for 3mill,its madness..Like Paul Robinson,he done us proud but lets move on.

Next we will want Tommy Mooney back..

we could do with another proven striker, for the right price but only if he will add something to the starting 11 not as as a squad player as we have enough

and dont worry now that prisken has learnt the offside rule (it was his summers homework :)) hes goona come good next season

I think that those of you who think our current squad is good enough for automatic promotion, must have been in a cave for the last year. Yes we have a huge squad, but it is still desperately lacking in quality. What concerns me is where all the money has gone? We should have wheelbarrow's full of cash, but we have spent a relative pittance on a player from Palace, with some free transfers to bolster our defence. We still have not brough in anyone who could possibly be seen as a step towards building for the premiership.

  25. krisvad

    krisvad Forum Viking

Some of the dough at least is gone towards wages for our new boys - neither Poom nor MacAnuff are cheap I suspect.

But it's true we should have loads to spend. However, we still need players that want to come. That seems to be the problem.

  26. hartvix

    hartvix Reservist

Yes, we probably still have lots to spend but if there was one thing to learn from January it's that it's pointless to just "spend money" on crap players who contribute nothing to the team. If we don't get a chance to spend the money now, we will still have the cash in January.

By the way, it's a total myth that we don't spend money on transfers. The last 12 months we've spent:

    Shittu - £1.6M ?
    Smith - £500k
    Francis - £1.25M
    Priskin - £1M ?
    Hoskins/Williamson - £1M :dismay:
    Kabba - £500k :dismay:
    Williams - £500k ?
    Rinaldi - £250k
    McAnuff - £2M

    Total: About £8.6M

    Sold: Spring - £200k, Young - £8M

    Total: £8.2M

Also, I think some people are mislead by all the crazy media BS about the value of a season in the Premiership. When they say that a promotion is worth £43M or something they totally forget that it's much more expensive to run a Prem-club as well, especially because of _player wages_.

If we're speculating about finances and how much we have to spend you can rule out the Ashley Young money! That money doesn't exist...it will be used to re-develope the stadium.

I can't see Aidy spending over £1,500,000 on anymore players this summer/January.

I get the impression he's looking at bargains (cureton for 500k), free transfers and loan signings. I think McAnuff will be the last MAJOR signing this summer, unless he sells players like Bouazza and Shittu, in which case i'm sure he'll spend money to replace them.

I can only see a centre-half and striker coming in now.

Probably McLeod from MK Dongs for £1,000,000 and a loan signing/free transfer (a youngster).

I don't think there will be much to get excited about for the remainder of the summer.

  28. UEA_Hornet

I certainly think McAnuff is a step towards it. How can you call nearly £2m a relative pittance? Are you in cloud cookoo land? Just how high are your expectations, because I'm not sure they'll ever be reached at Watford.

But anyway...the Championship is not that good. The quality level is a significant drop down from what we've just experienced in the Premiership. I think our outlook as fans has been so battered and bruised by a year in the glory league that people have lost sight of how mediocre the Championship is. The thing that makes it difficult is not the quality level but the number of competitive teams. The fact is no one player really stands out because if they do, they move to the Premiership within months. So it comes down to fight, desire and confidence - all qualities this squad has (we've seen it before). I'm not even sure you can really buy your way out of this league: it's certainly no guarantee of anything.

I'm sure there will be further additions to the squad as the start of the season approaches. In the meantime people need to chill out and stop fretting and double-guessing Aidy's intentions. For all the (totally unwarranted) criticism he's taken in the past couple of weeks for all you know we've been in for all these players and they've all intimated that a move to WFC isn't attractive, regardless of the money on offer. And after the way people lampooned the "My meeting with Collins John" style article on the fishal site it's not wonder nothing of that sort has happened again and we're left totally in the dark.

Until its all signed and sealed , HH could still come to us.

And even if he does sign for WBA, it could still be arranged for him to join us from WBA, not Fulham.

The Kenny Sansom deal to Arsenal from Palace all those years ago was a bit like that for those old enough to remember.

    Fingers crossed.

  30. Bubble

Totally agree. As long as you have a good work ethic, you can grind out wins and have a touch of quality in certain areas, you can certainly win promotion.

We've done it before, we can do it again.

Granted we have lost Spring, Young, Mackay (more than likely) and Foster but I honestly think we have added quality since our promotion with Priskin, Williams, Williamson, Rinaldi, Shittu, McAnuff, Poom and Bouazza aswell (seeing as he didn't play much in our promotion win).

We have more strength in depth now aswell as more quality than we last went up. One of the reasons we went up was because our squad was fit practically all season!

I trust Aidy and believe that he has got his first choice player in McNuff already.

Big name signings are great but we are a small club in comparasons to Wolves, West Brom, Charlton and Norwich - all who get 20,000 plus a game. Attracting big names isn't easy.

There is still along time to go, 6 weeks to the start of the season and 8 till the window closes. Managers and players have been on holiday and it's only at the start of July things start to move.

All the players we have been linked with are by the media and fans. Most i would say aren't of the quality we would want, eastwood, sharp and McCloud. H we wouldn't look at twice if he hadn't played for us before and we know what he was about.

6 to 9 weeks to go, it's a long time - be patient.

Oh don't write Kabba off just yet. My guess is he will be used as an impact player coming off the bench when teams are getting tierd. Don't be suprised if he chops in with 8 or 10 goals next season from the bench and we all know how vital late goals are !

It annoys me when peeps say we have quanity and not quality.

So name all the players we have that are not quality for us that will play in the 1st team?

You might as well say that the team that finished 6th from bottom, then gained promotion was not quality at that time.

We got to the prem then we became a team of no quality compared to all the others.

Mcanuff is a quality signing for a start.

we have enough quality in our team to gain play offs and promotion.
