ARCH rivals Watford don’t have the same loyal support Luton boast according to Hornet-turned-Hatter Jamie Hand, writes Mark Wood.

The much-travelled 27-year-old combative midfielder joined Hatters on loan from Blue Square Bet Premier rivals Hayes & Yeading on Friday with a view to a permanent move.

He was quick to praise Hatters’ loyal supporters after almost 6,000 of them helped to cheer Luton on to a 2-0 victory against Darlington as Hand made his debut on Saturday.

He said: “I’ve been to some big clubs like Peterborough and Northampton and this club is as big if not bigger than Watford.

“I would like to see how many fans they would get if they were in this division. The fans are great and I take my hat off to them.”

Jamie Hand - Didn't he do well!

He's always had a habit of gobbing off, but this is something. Hopefully we'll never have to see whether we'd still get 6k if we're in the Blue Square Prem!

Sorry, you just beat me to this one (feel free to merge posts)

Well hopefully we'll never have to find out whether 6,000 of us would still go in the Blue Square!

I remember when he used to gob off to Vialli and Lewington saying how he should be in the team every week. Well Jamie lad you'll certainly play first team football for the scummers, well done lad you've done so well for yourself

So Peterborough and Northampton are big clubs and L*ton are are bigger then Watford. Hmm...has anyone told him he's not playing in the "real" Premiership, but a non-league version? I bet he will feel pretty stupid once he finds that out.

On another subject, I heard the great Pat Jennings on the radio the other day and he was full of praise saying "Watford are a great little club". I bet Jamie Hand doesn't even know who he is.

He is probably right. Half the people on this forum are unhappy that we are not investing in the team enough and would soon lose interest if we dropped down a division or two.

As a crowd we are not nearly as vocal as we should be and I think if LT had the right ground in the NPower Championship they would probably create a better atmosphere than we currently do.

Let it go people! Just accept we will never see Hand again, he is in a different league to us! I know it is hard to get over, what with our Championship team that beat Norwich, QPR and Milwall (6-1) last season but we will just have to live with it, we are never going to have such a static, immobile conference player in our ranks.

NB. Just been on the outlaws site and they universally think he is a **** and have seen through his arselicking. They also seem to be hating MKDongs a lot, maybe more than us. Which led me to think, who would you support, if you had too, in a game between Dongs and the Scum?

Im gonna vote, and I stress, if I had to, on the scum

Dongs EVERY time (without re-visiting the franchise debate), I actually think QPR are almost on a par with LT, their fans have become a bunch of big time Charlies with short memories who gloat about having signed some of our better Ex Players ... though I do hold a special place in my heart :love2: for Colin who is priceless.

Half the people who go and watch Luton only go because they can't afford to go watch Arsenal or Man Utd. If they went up there'd be a fair few who'd stop going as they couldn't afford it.

Like others have said, what else do you expect him to say? He's on loan there, wants a move so he/his agent/LT are trying to please the fans. Lots of players say whatever people want to hear no matter which club they go to - including us.

Could say that for us to an extent...know a few around me seem to support Spurs as much as Watford.

He is probably thinking they make more noise but that isn't exactly hard...and its a quote to win their mob over.

Same thing applies for Watford, there's a big amount of people that you regularly see at The Vic wearing clothes for other teams, Arsenal mainly. And people with one eye on their phone for the Arsenal score and one eye on the game right in front of them.

Or in Jonathans case, one eye on his chips and one eye on his Man Utd shin pads.

    Glory supporter.

Didn't Tommy Mooney say something like 'if I was down to my last penny I would never play for Lut*n'. The 'banter' goes both ways and I enjoy stirring up the old rivalry.

If we sunk to their level I think we would at least have a hard core of 6000 every home game as they do and those that go would be more hardy, less fair weather and probably more vocal.

They have a similar history to us and we are both perhaps medium sized clubs who should have a hard core support of at least 6000 whatever league we were in. Other tinpot clubs who have dropped into the Blue Square such as Mansfield or Halifax are small clubs who would not have got much more than 3000 in the league anyway.
