This is what I've come up with so far, any tweaks, additions or useful info is welcome and then we can come up with a finished article for the site, which will be linked to other teams messageboards every week (when I go fishing for interview answers) and hopefully drum a bit of banter/activity up.

For real ale types they could also try The Nascot on Stamford Road and Southern Cross on Langley Road. A bit of walk to the ground but real ale types don't mind a trek for a decent beer ;)

I love the food in the Southern Cross, true story. Will add them in, in another colour so plain to see amendments.

A lot of people don't realise that the tube is within walking distance and that Watford High St is closer than Watford Junction. [IMG]

Noted and added, could anyone with PS handy scale down that map too? To somewhat similar sizes as the one I have in my post.

The sportsman is the Watford and district pub of the year. Might be worth pointing it out for the real ale types, especially the drivers.

On a slightly very pedantic note - typos/repeated words:

Note: The Girls Grammar School is hidden away with a blue wooden gate in the brick wall, so look out for it, it’s opposite the the Hall and will have signs around for Girls School/Swimming Pool)

(If the entrance is the one I'm thinking of, if you look on Google Streetview, all the signs on the gate refer to Fuller Life Health and Fitness Centre, so it might be worth adding that to save confusion. I think grammaticallty it would be Girls' school, but the official signs say "School for Girls".

Other than this the usual away fans pub will be The Moons under the Water (Wetherspoon's) which you'll find easily, it's in the High Street and the first port of call as you come in from Watford Junction train station, a typical Wetherspoon's pub with the odd ale, lots of cheap lager and cheap/cheerful food. (Depicted by the green spot on the map below)

If you are now using the other map, you'll need to add the green dot onto it, or delete this sentence.

If you're coming by car, come off the M1 at the SECOND Watford junction (Jct 5), and then take the third exit down the dual carridgeway into Watford (Stephenson Way, not the A41)

It's only the second exit if they are coming from the M1 Southbound! (Most will be of course!)
Also you'd only know it as Stephenson Way if you were local or looking at a map. For someone following road signs and your directions I'd be tempted to refer to it as the A4008 as these signs are clear from the M1 exit roundabout.

That's all I can find for now! A good guide.

But coming from London the journey times much better going in to WJ. The tube and Overground service are really slow.

I would suggest you mention the fact that Vicarage Road between Faraline Road and Harwoods Road is closed to all traffic from about an hour before and an hour after the game.

No... Because it isn't near a watford station and last time I checked there wasn't a no tolerance limit on drink driving. but thanks for trying.

A note of lap dancing and pole dancing clubs nearby. Ask Brads to assist you on that one.

Prentice when you talked about the walk to the ground I think it was unnecessary to talk about tall buildings and a taxi rank either side of Clarendon Road

It MAY confuse some fans as there is a taxi rank right in front of the station and of course tall buildings on the other roads to WJ - I think your comment is a bit superfluous and I think simply stating that Clarendon Road is straight in front of the station would suffice

Finally with your car directions (my comments are in red): If you're coming by car, come off the M1 at the SECOND Watford junction (Jct 5) it is only the second exit if coming from the south, just J5 would be enough, and then take the third exit (if you're coming southbound) or the second exit (if you're coming northbound) down the dual carridgeway spelling into Watford (A4008, not the A41) and follow the left hand slips that bypasses the roundabout, then you should should? there is no should about it :biggrin:come up to a large roundabout where you can go straight on for Tesco or right towards the Town Centre, go right, follow the ring road round or take the left hand lane to park in the Harlequin Shopping Centre car park?? until you find Vicarage Road or Market St depending on where you're parking. (for map reference, you will come down Stephenson Way, and onto Beechen Grove then follow the ring road around Exchange Road before turning left up the side roads leading towards Vicarage Road/Parking).

I think the last bit could do with tidying up - of course they will only be driving if they are parking the car (hence my suggested bit about using the Harlequin Car Park) so I would also state that they should immediately get into the RIGHT hand lane on the ring road to park in Church Car Park where there will generally be spaces right up to 3pm (Christmas shopping weeks excepted) or if they are in Watford before 2.30pm they should get in the LEFT hand lane to turn into the first legal left turn (Vicarage Road) and take an immediate left turn into Lady's Close where they will see the entrance to Watford Girls' Grammar School Car Park at the end on the right. It is not worth attempting to use park here after 2.30pm as it fills up early

    Good work by the way!

Actually, it's also potentially the second exit if you're coming from the north as well as the south ESP. J6 is North Watford/Gaston making J5 the second Watford junction from the north. However I agree with you that it probably just makes more sense to say 'Junction 5'.

    Hi there,

I have been a Notts Forest fan for 68 seconds and was wondering if you could hiighlight all the vegetarian and vegan establishments in your luverlee lil town as I wouldn't want to go to the match on an empty tummy. Does your club cater for vegetarians and vegans?

  24. hornmeister

    hornmeister Tired

No need to, they generally do not have enough energy to walk far enough down Vicarage Road.

  25. Spud

    1. No self respecting Forest fan will say Notts Forest. Forest are representative of the city whilst County are representative of the County. Hence Nottm Forest...Notts County.

ouch - i did say that i had been a Notts Forest fan for just 68 seconds - well now i know i is a Nottm Forest fan - are there any ucking vegetarian and or vegan eating places in the loverlee lil town know as Watford and does you lil club cater for that habit?

Interesting comment showing a lack of knowledge on the subject - some of the greatest people and intellectual minds of mankind have been vegetarian and or vegan.

Obviously us Forest fanns are more cleverer than you lil ol wfc heathens.

The only two of note I could find were Carl Lewis and Martina Navratilova both gave up meat when already at the top of their fields.

But one doesn't need to be the world's greatest athlete to walk very far down Vicarage Road...

Off the top of me head - wasn't Billie Jean King and Martina haveachickpeaparatha veggies?

Maybe most athletes are brainwashed into believing they have to eat meat for the protein they require.... what was the name of that geezer in amreican footie know as the FRIDGE - I wonder how his weight is now - is he still alive?

I'm veggie too as it happens... but I don't mind all the jokes against them- I'm used to it now.

In terms of footie food, my last visit to the Vic, I had a cheese and tomato melt thing and a veggie samosa inside the ground. Not sure about the burger vans, but at least they do chips, and you could probably get a fried egg bap!

Man City was bad as all their stands advertised as having veggie burgers, but they didn't actually have any... Chips and Gravy with onions was nice all the same!
