Giaretta - New Contract

I like to look forward to them…

 

I'm still reading through the thread, so this has probably been said already, but Manga is not the issue. He is what he is, but for WFC to hire him and take on his staff, but then to never 'give it a go' by backing him, even for one full window, was hugely wasteful.

We can guess what Manga said or didn't say or who he had lined up, but we can see for a fact that he was brought in and then made, what seems like, a max of two signings, then was booted.

Admittedly Araujo didn't work out, but can't have cost us much. Ferreira wasn't a disaster and nor was amazing, but I'd say was a mixed singing of the Kayembe standard.

The bottom line is, we brought in a new man to head up football operations and then failed to give them any backing or autonomy. We can't really judge him for that failing. He was seemingly sidelined from the start.

As many of us were saying, by the way.

 

I also think there's some value in hearing from these people, even if we choose not to believe a word they say. We can make our own judgements. We can also more clearly hold people to account, based on their own words. Give them enough rope etc.

Wow. Nani back. Great news - he was the one who oversaw the earliest phases of recruitment in the Pozzo era.

 

He'll be back within six months.

 

Just goes to show, what I’ve said all along, you just cannot trust ANYTHING the hierarchy tells you. They are gaslighters.

Having said that, I’m very pleased Nani is coming back. He was excellent in his recruitment first time around. Things nosedived dramatically after he left under Giraldi, then even worse under Giaretta.

It seems like anyone who does an in-depth interview with the WO gets binned a few weeks later.

Out of interest, is this view of him connected to you potentially working for the club? (That reads like I'm playing down your opinion, which I'm not! Just genuinely interested to know where it's come from.)

 

I’m surprised to see Nani has been out of work for 5 years!! He left Reading on 7th December 2018, by mutual consent after just 3 months, and has not worked for another club since then.

 

Holding out for Gino to finally get his head out of his arse and face the media.

 

I wouldn't fall over in shock if it turned out he's been working for Gino in the background somewhere for the past few years, whether here or at Udinese.

Despite the desire to be professional, and keep the door open for future interviews, @AFWO never disguised his own lack of enthusiasm for the bloke.

 

So... Tozser, Cathcart, Gomes - great! Tamas, Dyer, McGugan, Paredes, Daikite, Park...not so great.

 

To be fair, and I hope he won’t mind me saying this from speaking to him, I never felt @AFWO had any particular issue with Giaretta. He just didn’t get the level of vitriol for a man who didn’t really do very much behind the scenes.

 

Yes so he was no great source of players from the open market. Plus not sure what he has been doing for the last 5 years, does he still have a network/contacts etc ?
