was a very good player for us. Today I was chatting to the taxi driver on the way to a client ( he was a gooner) and he said he knows Gary Porter very well. I asked what he is doing now and he said he is an AGENT. Can anyone confirm this? If he is I wonder if he deals with WFC.
Gary Porter (footballer) Gary Michael Porter (born 6 March 1966 in Sunderland) is a former footballer who played either as a left-back or a midfielder. He is best known for his 13 year career at Watford. Porter spent the majority of his professional career at Watford, turning professional in 1984. He 464 appearances - the second highest by any player for the club, behind Luther Blissett - and scored 51 goals. He was released in 1996 following a lengthy injury. Porter moved to Walsall and later had spells at Scarborough and Boston United. He now works as a football agent. This entry is from Wikipedia, the leading user-contributed encyclopedia. yep, a five star grafter for us. the scouts we had in the north east, came up trumps, when they found him. a good all rounder for the club.;D;D;D
There are two of them I think I think that Gary Porter (the agent) is not our Gary Porter? This confusion came up a few seasons ago, I think GP the agent, may have been Tommy Smiths agent when he left us, though I am not sure about this? A lot of people were getting rather upset at the time because eveyone thought that the agent was our very own GP, and he was encouraging Tommy to leave us, but it turned out he was a totally different Gary Porter. I think that was it, but I'm sure someone out there can clarify if I am right or not
And he came back to the Hornets the Agent was doing us a favour the first time getting rid of Smith but now has let himself down by bringing him back. ;D Gary Porter was a top notch player for the Hornets. Cracking Freekicks and gave 110%
Gary Porter was UTTER RUBBISH throughout his Watford career. The exception being his testimonial season when he scored a hat trick in our 4-3 victory over Bolton who were 3-0 up with 19 minutes to go. Apart from that season I could never understand why we kept him for so long.
Porter was a legend. Great left foot, could cross, take dead balls and strike a great shot. He could play centre mid, wide left and even filled at left back for a spell. He played for the club at the highest level and was a dilligent servant to the club in the modern age, when such loyalty is a rarity. If there was a WFC Hall of Fame, he would be in there without a doubt. He is indeed working as an agent now and has indeed put on some weight. He was at the Blackburn game on Tuesday night. He is amongst the top 20 WFC legends of all time IMHO.
While that sounds a bit harsh, it's not too far from the truth. Gazza showed what he could really do in his testimonial season - he was absolute class, but other than that he was pretty much a jobbing midfielder who frustrated as often as not. He was/is definitely Tommy Smiths' agent.
