I have a Garmin but only the bottom of the range one (the i2). Brilliant little thing for £80 but a bit out of the league of the one you're on about Toronto.
Some bloke said, think it was on the gadget show. That there's actually only tow sets of maps and two sets of software that route plan. all the GPS data is the same so there is little to choose between units. I have a PDA phone with bluetooth GPS receiver and a copy of TomTom running on it.Apart from it taking about a minute to lock on to a signal I'm very pleased with it. I don't currently own a car put the system has got me out of hot water a few times, once getting to an interview on time on foot when the tubes broke down.
My mate bought at new fiesta and it came with a free TomTom... When he turns it on, eg. he's in southend it will say he's still in his drive, and about 10 mins later it says where he is
You need to stay still until it's locked onto a signal. If it's a permanent attachment in a car then it should be left switched on good systems will also be trackable should the car get nicked.
Apologies forgot to post: http://www.consumersearch.com/ Have a look here. Great site for kit reviews.
Have to say my black and white bottom of the range one locks on within a minute and is away. I've loaded all the speed camera locations onto it as well - have to say that's been a saver on a couple of occations.
ive got a tiddly little fujitsu one that does exactly what it should although i cant make the traffic info stuff work.. and hornmeister is right, you shouldnt move until it gets a signal otherwise it gets mighty confused.
I have tomtom 6 installed on an Ipaq pda and have a seperate Rikaline 6033 bluetooth gps receiver , it works a treat and was the use use i have found for my pda!! I currenty use this website to get updates and unlike most sites it gives you the chance to buy one months subscription for £2 with all types of speed camera (including mobiles) and locations , along with the dodgy french ones and the rest of europe. would be lost without it , and probably on a second driving liscence !!
I've got a TomTom and so far it's been a quality purchase. One of the best bits is the speed camera locations you can download. Stops me getting anymore points on my license, except when policemen are hiding behind trees!
Garmin Nuvi 360 user .... great toy, got me to Spain and back (avoiding Toll roads) with no stress whatsover, wouldn't be without it. Software takes a little getting used to and it's easy to allow the thing to distract you from the road ahead but I really have no real complaints. Downloaded all speed cameras in UK and France from the web and as the thing is bluetooth compatible can even use my phone hands free. Liked the Nuvi coz of it's size and features.
