I know it's difficult to get enthused about the England team these days but some very promising young players in most positions .

All of the below players are 23 or under , established EPL players mainly with top clubs and most of them have already played for England . The exception being RB slot, Walker-Peters who is not established but at 20 years old he is very highly rated by Spurs to take over from Walker.

    Barkley,
    Chalobah,
    Redmond

The Under 17s got to the Euro finals and Under 20s beat Argentina 3-0 this morning in the World Cup..

Maybe some hope for the future?

I always do this before every tournament and we just end up taking the likes of Matthew Upson to the World Cup.

Need a manager who's brave enough to draw a line now.

Leave the likes of Rooney, Jagielka, Baines, Defoe, Cahill, Hart, Glen Johnson, Walcott, Townsend etc all at home and start building.

It's pleasing to know that the next 'golden generation' will be as thoroughly unlikable as the last two.

And no doubt as thoroughly unsuccessful.

To think Sven Eriksen had a midfield quartet of Beckham, Scholes , Gerard and Lampard all in their prime , and we couldn't even win a quarter final .

Not to mention Owen and Rooney up top and back 4 of Terry , Ferdinand , Neville and Cole .
Seaman in goal or was he gone by then because his pony tail fell off .

Either way you're looking at almost 1000 caps.

The transition from junior to senior ranks is very difficult in most sports.

Take a look at the top ten juniors in tennis in any given year and the number who make the top 100 in ATP or WTA is very small.

A lot can happen, as evidenced by our own Rod Thomas.

Very true , but most of the above are already full internationals.

Anyway it's academic because we would still lose if we had the 11 best players in the world on the team sheet
