How has the UK government helped him to earn 20million? Do you think he's received 8m of benefit from the government? 16m? 24? How many years do you think he should pay back? Is it not the right of his parents, if they paid tax, to expect him to be educated based on their salary, without some onorous expectation that he would pay it all back when he grew up?

When I was at school, it was not explained to me that as soon as I left I would be expected to repay the government for the pleasure of having an education. What about those who leave school and them claim benefits? They are draining the system even further. Who pays for them?

McClaren get away with lie gate. There was no way the fia were going to ban them as Mercedes would then pull out leaving a 14 car grid. I think they should of got a 3 race ban just like honda did a few year back.

Red Bull and Toyota are saying the same thing.

Besides, its about the £40m budget cap, not the kinetic boost thing.

Anyone know what the top teams are currently spending?

A budget cap of 40 million seems a huge difference.

F1 is meant to be the pinnicle of mototrsport around the whole world, and theres 10 teams.

There are countess football teams around the word with a much more smaller market with bigger budgets.

If teams spend less, the sport as a whole won't lose much income, meaning more profit for the fia.

They sound fair at first but then if every team is going to pull out etc then well the regulations clearly won't work!

    Another mess for F1 then...

Its a real shame. The FIA are really trying hard to sort f1 out to make sure it has a future and teams like Ferrari dont care about F1 and just care about themselves. The FIA has given ferrari alot in the past and its a shame to see that as soon as they dont get there way they throw there toys out the pram.

Unfortunately the Ferarri brand is stronger than the F1 brand, so they wield the power here. How many paying punters are Ferarri fans, not F1 fans, and would follow them to whichever other racing sport they entered and made bigger? Look at what happened to Superbikes once it lost all the big name teams to MotoGP.

Oh how dare an elite car brand which has marketed itself for years on being unattainable to all by the richest not be too chuffed about joining a budget F1 competition

Seriously though, the FIA's plans are ill thought out and the two-tier system they've fudged is a laughing stock.

Had a good laugh today, found out that one of the managers here had a bet with one of the chaps regarding Jenson Button. The boss man has to pay £1 for every point Jenson gets over last years total, against £1 for every point under, (I think he got 15 last season). Boss fail.

  12. Davidwfc

I would not call the FIA's plans ill thought out. They dont want a two-tier system they want one tier with budget caps. its the only way to ensure that f1 will survive but ferrari and other teams only care about themselves so its really hard for the FIA to change things.

the bget peropoed is about 10-20% of what many are on now.
No company can reduce their cost that much easily. Max mosley just lost a few hundred jobs.

Eh? So why allow teams to still compete by spending over the £40m budget then, albeit under the current technical restrictions? Surely it should be all under £40m or not at all?

He is an arrogant, whingy little b!tch. He always whinged when he lost, and continues to do so. 'wah wah wah I'm not winning anymore, wah wah wah my team lies all the time, wah wah wah wah wah'. Boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

Long live mild mannered Button, Chinny chin Coulthard and Damon Hill - likeable talent.

Button certainly isn't that. He was just like Hamilton when he first came on the scene, all girls, glamour, play boy lifestyle etc. When he was younger, he was always winging, the next best thing at Willaims, then onto BAR, resigned for Williams and then realised how crap they were so had to have contract brought out again. By the way he lives in Monaco as well so like Lewis does not pay tax. And guess where Mr Coulthard lives as well, yep Monaco. In fact even Damon Hill, a radlet boy for his early life was another tax exile last time I heard on the Isle of Mann.

Sure is is not just jealusy on the multi millionaire, talented, world champion, ****bing one of the fittest birds on the planet, Hamilton Potguy?;)

I know they all live in Monaco. All F1 drivers live in Monaco.

And it isn't jealousy - I am equally jealous of anyone obscenely rich.

The difference is, Hamilton gets on my t!ts.

The FIA cannot force all the teams to take the budget cap but if they could they would. I how changed my mind on the subject now and i find myself on ferrari side now. I understand the fia want to bring in new teams but i dont see why the big teams have to budget cap.

Formula 1 is meant to push the limits of what these leading car manufacturers can do.

By slapping this budget cap on the sport, it will be ruined, so I can't say I blame the teams for wanting to pull out if it goes ahead.

If it aint broke, don't fix it - The teams that aren't competative, are in this situation because they don't have the money/technology, so why ot wait until they do, before entering.

The guy lies and has another driver punished for something they did not do and Hamilton expects us to feel sorry for him. Hamilton is a lair and a cheat and if he does not like the way things have gone he should not have lied. He had many chances to come clean about what he did, but only when he was caught out 2 weeks later did he say sorry, and even then he blamed someone else. Ron Dennis got Hamilton to the top but when Dennis was awarded a life time achievement award and they asked Hamilton to present Hamilton refused.

I went to Silverstone at the weekend and there is not a crowd and atmosphere like it anywhere in the UK. Just for the practice on Friday there were 85,000 people there, and on race day 120,000 people. I cannot think of any other sporting event in the UK what can attract that many people on one day.

Vettel won the race by a mile, but it was still a great race to watch with Hamilton and Alonso getting in plenty of battles. At the end Button was catching Rosberg by a second a lap. It’s all very well watching it on TV and being told that, but at the race you get to see the gap come down lap by lap what makes for great entertainment.

I went along to the after race party along with 20,000 other fans. The likes of Hamilton, Button, Vettel Webber and former greats such as Jackie Stewart & Damon Hill were in attendance. When Hamilton was on stage I was really impressed with what he was saying and wondered to myself with I dislike him. At that moment his pop star girlfriend came on sang don’t you wish you boyfriend was hot like mine then walked, and I remembered why I did not like him before. Hamilton won me over in the end and showed that he really cared about Silverstone and the fans. The BBC team were on stage as well, and Eddie Jordon and DC were really funny.

It was good to see after the races so many drivers and team bosses saying they would love to come back to Silverstone. Vettel even said he wishes he was British as despite being German all the fans were on there feet and cheering him after he had won. I really hope the race stays at Silverstone next year as if it goes to Donnington then everything that is great about the British grand prix will be gone, and will just have another boring event whats not worth buying a ticket for.

Good write up David. I reckon the addition of Coulthard to the commentry team has been a masterstoke for the BBC, him and Jordan work well together.

I can definately see the race back at Silverstone next year and would not be suprised to see it stay there for the foreseeable future as they is no-way that the Donnigton promotor is going to raise over a 100 mill for that site, especially as th grand prix will most likely be ruined each year with rain! It waas pleasing the see old Bernie say so as well (even if it was to gather support from the fans during their turbulant times).

If the race goes to Donnington then there will be no character. If it goes to Donnington there will be a park and ride system. What makes Silverstone special is that thousands of people camp just outside the circuit. Silverstone is open to the early hours, as they host so many things for the fans staying there. What was great after the race was that you could just walk onto the track and walk around the track. I wish I had my bike, as I would have been able to cycle around the track what would have been great. I did however get to run along the pit exit to get the the after race party. It was great to be on the track and walk over the rubber that the cars have left behind. Silverstone is the most fan friendly event there is, and Donnington will never be as good, and will never have the buzz around it that Silverstone does.

I have been really impressed with the bbc coverage this year. DC & EJ have been great and even Jake from cbbc has been a great host. Eddie Jordon was with his band the Robbers at Silverstone and they were really good. The Banter between him and DC on stage was great.

The bloke running Donnington hardly sounded confident at all that they would find the money and support to fund an F1 race (and the local public are not happy to have a race there either)

I hope F1 keep a British GP rather than continue to go off to a country where like Turkey there is hardly anyone watching compared to the traditional tracks in Europe that have mass crowds full of motorsport fans than just a few V.I.Ps. (ok so does Sliverstone as well!)

Plus whilst Sunday wasn't the most exciting (hate to say it but Button sort of proved F1 is just as much about the car as the driver by moaning about the lack of pace etc all week) its usually a decent race compared to the new circuts which have little overtaking.

Suppose like so many sports F1 is about making money...its just how they spend it!

Good to see Hamilton wins at last and it was a bit like last season with Ferrari 2nd.

Button and Brawn seem very much off the pace for now but not too much damage done with Vettel quitting.

What an action packed weekend. 4 different cars in the top 5, Masa's terrible accident (get well soon) and a complete reversal of form for Hamilton.

Button and Brawn need to get their act together quickly or they risk a disapointing end to the season. The car just is not competitive at the moment and it is handing the advantage to Red Bull.

Well Done to Jenson Button. Before this series started he had only won 1 race. Brilliant.
