[RUMOUR] Etienne Capoue

He's clearly back in from the cold or Silva wouldn't have brought him on today. He worked hard, put in a great ~20 minutes and scored an absolute cracker. It's also pretty obvious from the way the rest of the squad treated him when he scored that he's a popular figure in the dressing room.

I don't expect to see him leave unless we get a silly money offer. He's more than good enough for us.

 

Second season in a row he's scored on the second Saturday!

Whatever reservations people have about his attitude and tendency to go missing especially in winter, he's now scored 8 times after a fruitless first season in front of goal, and I'd hate to see us get rid of somebody who knows where the goal is in the Pl.

 

Was that the deal which prompted an outbreak of forum coprophagia from the Don and @withasmile

 

The difference this year is he isn't nailed on to start every game, which will either make him force a move, if his ego isn't up to it, or mean we can get the good and drop/bench him for the bad.

 

A better forward than Deeney. Same age as well.

 

If we could sign Hindzight from Dutch side Machjoost-Plaid and play Capoue with him he'd be a helluva player.
As it is he'll be frustrating more often than he'll be great. We could do so much worse though.

I think the beauty of having players like Capoue in the squad means that we are able to rotate, I would really like to see us have a go at one of the cups this year.

Agree. I'm sure we will all have fun tomorrow trying to predict our starting line up for Tuesday, but it could be quite a strong one even if we start with players yet to feature in the league for 90 mins.

is still crap, is still only a 3rd or 4th choice behind Pereyra, Zarate and Cleverley.

Keep him as a reminder to the U23's of how you can waste your talent if you can't be asked to put some effort in.

Could be a decent replacement for Gilmartin as the non playing travelling member of the squad and useful back up to Derek Payne

 

The whole situation is clearly a balancing act.

If we can afford to keep him then we should. Further to that, if we do sell him are we using that money to fund a reasonable replacement, in another position maybe? Can we get someone we need? If no then no point really.

Also, if more than one of our CMs gets injured we arent in a great place. Imagine now, if Cleverley gets a knock, or Doucoure, even a one game eye cut or something. Hughes then has to play, and if Capoue goes, we have ZERO CM cover (Watson aside).

The balance is that if he isnt getting consistent game time, will he blow his top and bring down the dressing room? This is impossible to say. He might be happy picking up his wages and training. Who knows? Only Silva, and hes making an approximation anyway!

 

I think people are getting a bit carried away, this is exactly what he did last season. I remember sitting at a wedding in September and a mate was moaning that he had Capoue in his fantasy team and he had been great but hadn't scored for a few games. I told him to take him out asap as it wouldn't continue into Autumn.

 

A totally serious one here. I fully trust the 1881 to deliver the harmony on point.
