C/P FROM BBC World Cup winner Alan Ball has died of a heart attack at the age of 61. Ball was a key member of the England side that won the World Cup in 1966 and went on to win 72 caps for his country. He started his career at Blackpool and went on to play for Everton, Arsenal and Southampton before a playing spell in the United States of America. He also managed seven clubs over a 19-year period, including two spells with Portsmouth as well as Southampton and Manchester City. RIP
Rip Alan, one of the nicest blokes in footy and 1 of the 66 heros, our thoughts go out to your family at this time.
What a shock!!! Did he have a long term illness? or was it sudden like a heart attack? Does anyone know. RIP Alan one of the true greats!!!
sudden and unexpected death in his sleep from heart attack. Lawrie McMenemy on 5 live this morning said he was due to play golf with him today for a heart charity. what a sad irony. i saw him play a lot for arsenal in the early/mid seventies when i would go to a london home game when watford were away or not playing. i can't think of a modern player to compare him with, he just never ever stopped running.
RIP - A tenacious player who you wouldnt have wanted to play against you but would have loved in your team!

What a genuine player I too used to watch Arsenal in the 70's when Watford were not playing, or away, or just utter carp, Bally for me represented the best of English football. Never say die attitude, would never give up, how I wish he could have played for us. My lasting memory was him picking up his counterpart firebrand at Leeds Billy Bremner by the hair after a tussle, I think he got sent off for it but what a man. RIP Alan, thanks for the enjoyment down the years.
Such a shame, a good player who i sadly never got to see due to my young age. It seemed to come completely out of the blue. R.I.P to him, and condolences for his family.
RIP Alan, I wonder if Man City fans will sing the Wonderwall song about him and Kinkladze at their next game, that was a quality song. Didn't he comment on the Pompey v Utd game on Sky just a couple of weeks ago? It is a big shame.
Very upsetting news. My uncle knew him very well as he lived in Warsash (Southampton) down the same road. Use to drink together in their local, met him a few times about 5 years ago. A really nice bloke and will be missed. RIP
obvs im too young to have seen him play but from all ive heard of him he was a great player and will be missed R.I.P
