Eddie Howe needs to let it go and move on...

This is not another anti Bournemouth thread; Eddie Howe needs to stop focusing on the negatives from the Liverpool game and get on with shaping the team for the next matches.

Yes it was the wrong decision under the new laws of the game, but I feel that it's three days later and he should be focusing on the positives of how well they played and on the platform to build the rest of the season. But it seems he's still after the ref to explain himself, and trying to stir up something that WILL NOT change the result of the game and simply serves as a distraction to his team.

It's clear from interviews from other managers on the subject that there is a clear and present problem with the new rule update, and this will surely be dealt with over the coming games after it undoubtedly happens to other teams this weekend and onward.

All this whinging should be left to the fans on the message boards, not kept repeating and repeating on any sports channel that will listen to him. This just detracts from their performance and stops the players from concentrating 100% on their next game.

The only possible reason I can imagine is to try to sway a decision this weekend in his favour if such a situation should occur again, so perhaps it's just playing the game, but it's just becoming unsavoury and desperate now and needs to be put behind them.

The point has been made already on live tv. Everyone who watched the game - pundits, fans, and probably the people who judge the refs - will know it was the wrong decision and needs to be studied in detail. If he cant let it go, his team could be facing another defeat this weekend when they need him most.

    Time for bed!

I find his attitude distasteful but, that said, he may be smart. He is laying down a marker with refs "make bad decisions against us and we won't just shrug our shoulders we'll attack you and possible even affect your reputation and career in the short term" That worked quite well for Sir AF. Leaves a bad taste but may well be in club's long term interests.

Probably still in shock that TWO decisions went against them...

SAF was an experienced man in this department but he wasn't above the FA. Howe would find himself on a misconduct charge if it carries on, I agree with the OP.

Funny thing is, their disallowed goal was a blatant push and the offside Liverpool goal was marginal even with the new rules. Eddie Howe is a *****.

I don't think that's true. It was a textbook example of what the rule was apparently brought in to prevent. Nothing marginal about it.

  7. This is what he does, *****es and moans until he convinces everyone muff get all the bad decisions, at which point they start to get all the good decisions

He wouldn't be managing in the PL in the first place if not for the incompetence of referees.

    Whingey, little gnome.

Agreed. There was clear movement toward the ball (his foot was about 12" away from making contact with the ball) by the offside player, so was interfering under the new rules.

I personally still think Liverpool would have gone on to win the game anyway, as they were in the ascendancy and would have continued to attack if they didn't have the 1 goal cushion in place.

That aside, perhaps this little tactic will work in the long run, but I do hope he's not gong to continue to b1tch and moan at every decision that goes against him for the rest of the season as it's already becoming a little annoying.

Hope our fans can let it go as well what happened against Bournemouth last season as well!

The beauty of multi angle high def television is unlike last season they will get found out more than have things go for them. The foul by Elphick is a clear example and IMO just makes EH look a fool.

I think he's just taking media attention away from the loss, no pressure on the players from the media that way. Everyone is just talking about the offside rule.

Exactly what Mourinho did with the doctor situation, and Pearson with the Ostrich comment last season. Pearson is an extremely clever man, very surprised more people didn't interpret what he was doing...or what managers do regularly.

Unfortunately i think you are correct, we all make mistakes at work no how perfect some of us think we are, the football pitch is the place of work for the refs, one of the worse decisions of last season was when the Ref blew up when it looked like Sheff Weds were going to get the winner against us, wonder if their fans are still moaning about that, cost the club a few quid.

If what happened to Bournemouth happened to us we would be moaning about it for years, they were robbed.

No, Middlesborough - the team still in the Championship due to poor referees and Bournemouth's cheating - were robbed.

The problem is that the player was marginally offside, the play moves forward then he moves his leg out. By that point there's benteke in the way and the lino can miss it.

Yeah. Marginal. Only about 3 yards in it...

And it's not all on the linesman to spot it - the referee should be involved too.

lol, i only saw it once and figured it was the other liverpool player, completely missed the clearly offside one. Once the ball comes in, the lino still needs to decide which player out of bundle of bodies was the one offside, and needs to have a view of him moving a foot toward it.

Benteke was certainly onside and this picture is taken at the wrong time ... it should be when he shot.

actually scrub that ... he waved his foot at it before the onside Benteke got to it

  23. UEA_Hornet

    UEA_Hornet First Team Captain

No it shouldn't. Coutinho was in an offside position when the freekick came in and then made himself active by attempting to play the ball and causing an opponent (Boruc) to react. It's nothing to do with Benteke.

EDIT: Posted before Godfather amended his post.

yeah, I amended my post so not that close then.

We should award Muff a theoretical point? :D

In all honestly for a Premier League assistant ref it really shouldn't be that hard to track the offside man. What might be difficult is to ascertain whether the raised foot affected an opponent as per the new rule but then that's where the referee should step in.

  26. Hornpete

Probably, but in looking along that white line I missed Coutinho even being there! From that snapshot, where do the players go? Coutinho moves left (as we look at it) Everyone else moves right. Half a second after this, as he's waving a foot in the balls direction it's not that straightoforward - I suspect this won't be the first time it causes a problem either.

If the ref has to call it, how does he know the player is offside to start with? does the lino wave regardless of if he touches it and the ref only blows if he thinks there was a movement? Bournemouth had the wrong end of the call but I can't see how the referee and linesman can analyse all the picture.

I don't think it's possible to tell from that. The camera isn't level with the defensive line so it could be an optical illusion, as we have seen demonstrated so many times before.

Exactly my thinking. They have so many HG players, it really isn't necessary.

They must have an extremely limited scouting network.

Mostyn giving it the big one in the evening standard about how Bounemouth were the thoroughbreds in the Championship and how most others teams play long ball.

In fairness it's quite hard to play long ball from the penalty spot.

That's my thinking, they're so tinpot they don't have much of foreign scouting setup. That or they're trying to prove a point by signing homegrown.
