East Stand

Does anyone know when the work on the East stand is supposed to happen?

That stand is such an eyesore and it really undermines the club. It is something every away fan can joke about. It also has a detrimental effect in attracting players and fans alike.

I know Bassini said he would do this, but did he ever give a timescale on when the work would commence?

I would say the number one priority was the East stand, closely followed by the pitch. The ground would look so much better and would attract more investment, and possibly more fans.

I hope Bassini has genuinely got funds in place for this, as from what I can see he’s done things in a strange order. The giant screens cost £300k, but to be honest I have not seen a difference from this to the old one. Putting in a new PA system, again I think was not necessary at this stage. Surely once the new stand has been completed, then it would be time to do that work.

The Red Lion is a nice project, but again, is it really of a higher importance? To me, it seems he has got the priorities wrong.

I totally understand his reason for delaying the relaying of the pitch and do not have an issue with this being done next season, and having Saracens playing here until January.

The SW corner has been muted as starting by the end of the year.

I am wondering what is the view of other fans, on the progress that is being made off the field and the order in which they are being done.

Can't do anything to the East Stand until the SW corner is done.

It is an unusual order , but hey ho.

The Pub would of been the last thing on my list, 1st would be the SW corner, then the stand then the pitch.

But, where is the funding going to come from for the East Stand ?

Cost would be at least £10 mil for a basic stand, outside investment ?

It could be that he is doing the smallest projects 1st so they can be completed quickly and it shows the fans that progress is being made. if he was to develop the ground 1st then this will take years and fans may become even more restless.

The pitch should be number 1 priority. This is a FOOTBALL club. Football uses the pitch, and once the pitch is down everything should be built around it. I understand the need to leave it for a year, but we shouldn't touch the East Stand until the pitch is done, and the SW corner needs to be done first so that the new changing rooms and media facilities are available. Then the dug outs need to be moved to the Rous side of the ground (which I still don't understand how it'll work).

That's pretty much what Bassini is doing, well done to him. :sign15:

By redeveloping the Red Lion additional funds will be brought in, so it makes sense to do it quickly. Yes they won't be massive, but it'll help in the long term.

He's got to do the SW corner before he can do the East stand so that makes sense.

Some of the quick wins (TV screens, PA system, astro turf) has been long over due and makes the place less shabby.

The Red Lion is an eye sore in its current state and is doing nothing for the club. I see nothing wrong in sorting it out whilst they finish the SW corner and find funding for the East stand.

    Not so strange at all.

For me nothing is more important than that East Stand. I'd rather be in League One with a new stand, than The Championship as we are. However its very early days in the Baz reign, and these things don't just happen over night.

Nope the team should be the No.1 priority and if you can't see that we have invested in bulking out and improving our squad then there is something wrong, 2nd priority the pitch, but the East Stand? Okay as it is, it's an eyesore but have we been short on seating? would we fill it if it was built? do we have a waiting list for ST holders? NO! We can afford to bide our time, settle this squad and make sure we are not constantly relegation favorites, with better football comes more fans, not with a new stand.

    Strange logic.

As those who are worried about what other fans say about our club, is your life that dull that it bothers you what other polyester clad ***** say?

A new East Stand will increase revenue in other areas and therefore will be a positive. However much work needs to be done elsewhere before they can do anything.

As for it being eyesore, have you looked at the rest of the town?...

Agreed. It would be nice to not have that giant waterslide behind the dugout but as said above, we don't need the extra seating.

What exactly is happening to the SW corner?

To me it looks like they set out to build a concrete blob and it's finished.

24 out of 24 clubs in this league don't need all the seats they have. The fact is the ground is too open and loses what little atmosphere it already has via this stand. I'd rather sit in a half empty ground with 4 sides than one with 3. And as previously stated these things do matter when we are trying to attract people to the club.

isnt the priority still to pay off the £9m we still owe the good lord or is he so rich he's forgotten about it!

Maybe we will be able to sit in the Marvin Sordell stand rather than the Druce Dyer or Paul Furlong stands if he keeps bangin them in.

Sure, here is my take on it.

If we can't fill the seats we have now on a consistent basis, what is the urgency to invest in a massive infrastructure project that would increase capacity simply for aesthetic reasons? It will be developed at some stage but it's not a priority for me. If a player hasn't signed because they didn't like the stand, then I would question their motivation.

Screens are great, but not an essential. It doesn't generate revenue - they can just as easily read out messages like they used to rather than display them in silence...

PA system - who asked for this idiot to shout at us? Not me. A bit of build up music before, announce the team, substitutions, half time messages, goal scorer. The rest is pure ego.

Do we really need a scoreboard - are we going to forget the score? A simple clock would be great.

The Red Lion is going to generate revenue outside of matchdays so its a good thing. But please DO NOT turn it in to some 'family friendly' brightly lit poorly designed modern venue - it's a pub, that serves good food, that does a BBQ outside on matchdays, with local beer, with rooms you can hire out etc.
You know they're going to turn it in to the most awful 'football supporter' themed bar and I am just going to die. I'm thinking wouldn't something like - http://www.theatlaspub.co.uk be just great...

    • The priority is to build a team to stay in the Championship.
    • Improve the pitch at the end of the season
    • Invest in direct revenue generating projects
    • REDUCE the cost of food/drink for supporters - its so expensive.
    • Sell talent at the end of the season for profit, then give the next lot of players a chance.

    It really is very simple.

A new east stand would look nice but we'd get even more stick if it was built and stayed more than half empty!

As said the SW corner work is due to start again in Octoberso lets see what happens after that.

Do we need more seats ? let’s check the facts.

    Average attendance:
    08-09 – 14,858
    09-10 – 14,345
    10-11 – 13,152
    11-12 – 12,942

Even when we had the QPR invasion we only made 15,538.

I would say more seats is very low on the list of things we need.

When the SW corner is complete flatten the area and make it look better, but more seats not currently needed.

  26. hornetboy1

I dont think we'd get stick for not filling a new stand, but it would give the place a much needed boost. I think it would have a knock on effect throughout the club also, certainly in the short term.

I read October was the start date for the SW corner, but I now believe this has been put back to January. I would like to hear what Bassini intends to do as, for me, this is the most important off the field project. He has been very quiet on this and I assume it has been put on the back burner for now.

Agree to a certain extent, but big screens allow ad revenue. I haven't seen if the new one is much better, but the old one was starting to look a bit naff.
Would you pay to advertise on a cr4p looking screen?

Thinking about it, surely a pitch would come after SW Corner and East Stand. Not sure i'd want to fork out for a new pitch then have a **** load of construction going on around it.
