    Earnshaw goes to Derby

    For £3.5 million.

Turns out that he had a release clause in his contract.

Seems fair. He would never have come here anyway. The Premiership was his aim and although the fee was affordable we couldn't offer him what he wanted.

That's a cracking price. He's gonna score goals whatever league he's in.

Was expecting this news. There were strong rumours on their rivals board the other day.

Another one to be filed under 'Year too late'

Eastwood (or Cureton) will be at Carrow Rd by Monday

It is a good move for Earnie and Derby. 3.5 million is good value for a guaranteed scorer. It will help their chances no end.

Forget Cureton as well he's going to Norwich.

It looks like pikey Eastwood is going to Wolves.

BUT Scunny are denying that they have spoken to Sheff Utd over Billy Sharp so it looks like someone may have blurted earlier than they should have, sounds a bit like tapping up to me:eek:

Great! Buying Earnshaw was only a pipe dream, though I wouldn't have minded Cureton for a season. Eastwood and Sharp could turn out to be great or mediocre.

So that means that if we were planning on buying a striker from England then it basically leaves us with McLeod and maybe Radzinski.

I seriously hope Aidy knows what he is doing in this department.

Maybe/hopefully they found someone in Argentina who could fit the bill? I hope that that scouting mission doesn't turn out to be a waste of time.

    Wait, so as things stand...

    Earnshaw to Derby - Done.
    Cureton to Norwich - Done.
    Eastwood to Wolves - Likely.
Sharp to Sheff Utd - Likely.

And as much as I would like to see Heidar back I don't see him wanting to drop down to the Championship yet, so that leaves us with who now?

At the moment yes, which also leads me to a severe feeling of depression!

We have a good month or so until the season starts. Plenty of time for a striker to arrive (or not)

Why? In the Championship season 2005/6 our strikers scored 45 Championship goals between them:

    King (21)
    Henderson (14)
    Kabba (9)
    Bouazza (1)

Meanwhile Smith (8) and McAnuff (7) clocked up reasonable totals from the wings. Why the depression?

Hmmmm, you make a good point UEA, but I can't see Kabba getting 9 this time round! Other than that, thank you for lifting my depression. ;)

We also have Hoskins who I think should be good once he gets a fair share of games without having to be a target for hoofs with his huge size disadvantage.

Hoskins had similar records to Sharp and Eastwood in League 1. The thing is our style of footie in the PrL - as PotGuy says - did not suit him. Hopefully this coming season, we'll be able to hold on to the ball more of the time and build up attacks rather than hoofing all the time. I feel certain that Hoskins will come good given the chance.

His size dosn't have to be a disadvantage, Jermaine Defoe and Robbie Keane are hardly giants are they.

What he does need though is to beef up a bit.

True but they don't play in hoof sides.

That is true - and that cold be said of a few of our young strikers.

King has been injured for half a season and so there is no guarantee he will be the same player of two seasons ago.

Henderson has just had a very poor season in terms of scoring which could have drained his confidence in front of goal.

Kabba has completely lost all his pace and sharpness (though he could regain it).

Bouazza, Smith and McAnuff should get a few, but I'm not sure they'd make up for potentially not having a 15+ goals striker.

I agree with most of the above, except Kabba is a moron and I think Hendo will get back on track.

And I don't see smith scoring too many goals... :]]

And I think Boozer will score us many.

King looked plenty sharp at the end of the season. The paranoia that he won't be the same again has no basis. And why would Henderson bring a lack of confidence into this season? The past is the past - if you think he's likely to dwell on the past why wouldn't he dwell on the bit where he scored 14 Championship goals last time round?
