Todays NOTW links him with a move to QPR Doesn't his contract run out at the end of this season? I'd be happy to lose Stewart but Doyley has improved considerably this season.
I think Lloyd was given a new contract this season , may be wrong though. Perhaps they've got Mahon and Lloyd mixed up , an easy thing to do. After all they had Jay and hendo mixed up for the first 2 months of this season.
Unless QPR offer him silly money I see no reason why Doyley would want to go. Unlike Stewart he might be of some good to somebody a bit better than us... NOT THAT I WANT LLOYD TO LEAVE!
and bring in mroe crap like like the recent signings? At least Doyley (and Mahon were cheap and probably not on 20k a week etc)
I don't know is Lloyd is good enough for the Prem, so if we were doing well and top i'd see i may have seen it as a good move for both parties. However, we aren't playing well and Lloyd has actually been one of our most consistent (good!) performers this season and has improved a lot. For that reason i'd be surprised and disapointed if Aidy did let him go, even if he does plan to buy a new left back and a new right back
Fair point, but i think he will struggle more than most (at the moment they'd all struggle because those with skill show no effort, those with effort no skill!)
granted. he will struggle in the prem. but so will the other 10 players that played yesterday even when we was winning this season, the performances didnt prove to me that we could cope with the threat of wigan let alone man united!! IF we go up , my money is on us finishing bottom again, id much rather stay in this league
doyley wouldn't leave for qpr, this is the same paper that linked him with a 1.5mil move to fulham a few months ago
If we are serious about going up and staying up in the premiership, i dont see how keeping the same players who were not good enough the first time around and failed miserably, is going to work! fans favorite or not, he isn't good enough!
I concur. In fact, Lloyd's main weakness now his distribution has improved a bit is he's crap against wingers will pace. And if there's one thing the Prem has in droves it's those.
Bristol City Manager on Doyley Stayed in the hotel the other week where Bristol City team stayed; they played over and over again the Burnley match from the week before and their Manager stopped the film at the same time all through saying that Doyley was the weak link. He said he just runs backwards, backwards, backwards and gives the wingers tons of space and never closes them down and very rarely makes a good tackle. He said that all the managers will just stiflfle Marlon that is why we need to bring someone on who these teams do not know; all the managers speak to each other about Watford apparently telling each other how we play. I was so surprised when he picked out Doyley because he had been playing ok. Since then I have watched him and it is true, but after yesterdays performance; except for Smith who runs his socks off every game and tries to keep the ball on the ground the manager was right. One guy for them was suspended the next day and he stayed around till 2am drinking in the bar we did say eventually that we were Watford supporters and we dont usually play that bad.......................I rue saying that comment now. Another thing the atmosphere in the Rookery is terrile where I sit; in front of old boys who constantly tut and sigh everytime you make a noise I can honestly say I preferred sitting in the Lower Rous (something I thought I would never say as I had always said when the kids grew up I could not wait to sit in the Rookery). The atmosphere except for when Al came out was rubbish; I remember when Robbo would come out and get the crowd going and last season against West Ham a couple of players came over with clenched fists trying to get the crowd going but I can honestly say I feel there is no passion whatsoever; who wants to run for that ball that is going out; let it go out for a throw in, corner, etc because they cannot be bothered to run after it. I have never felt so down about going to the Vic before; away atmosphere is better and I applaud the Plymouth fans for all their singing and chanting yesterday. If all the stands can sing for Al why can't they sing for the team when they are playing?
I think Lloyd should be given a new contract as he is a good squad player. He is decent cover at right back and center back. However, his skills are very _limited_, that's the kind way to say it. If we actually get promoted to the Premiership again we must seriously get better ball players in the back four. Stewart, Shittu and Doyley all have the same problem, although I think Stewart has more potential when it comes to skills with the ball and Shittu's immense presence in the center defence is valuable even though he can't pass the ball properly. So, keep Doyley, but get a better replacement if we want to move forward.
:]]:]] I will drive Doyley to QPR myself all the way from Devon... Worst RB since Mick Henderson and John Stirk. Improved this year but with Strewart needs ditching. Quick
I do remember he was poor against Burnley and Barnsley like most of the team to be fair and he does tend to run back (rather than just dive in like some) Maybe other managers rate Sewart highly than we do!
Are you joking or what!? He was the ONLY defender to come out with any credit at Barsnley/Barnsleigh!
Doyley is reliable nothing more or nothing less. Not as good as all the fans make out. As stated by 1 or 2 people in this thread when up against skillfull/quick wingers he isnt that good defensively. Didnt cope atall in the prem was dropped after a few months in. Although he has improved on the ball, he still isnt good enough in that department.
Huh? Along with Smith, Francis, King and sometimes O'Toole he has been our only player recently actually able to make decent passes. The link-up between him and Smith has been probably the only consistent positive in our play over the last month.
There's no doubting Lloyd has improved this year, especially on the ball, but that wasn't hard considering how poor he was with the ball previously. If I had the choice between replacing Doyley or Stewart in January, it'd be Stewart every single time, at least Doyley has some passion and commitment for the club, but i think if we're going to succeed in playing better football, we're eventually going to have to replace him with a slightly more cultured footballer. If we're serious about improving our style of play (which i'm praying we are) then it's essential that each of our players on the pitch is comfortable with the ball and as much as he has improved, personally i don't think Doyley ever will be. A great squad player to have, you can't ever see him throwing the toys out of the pram if he's not playing and you can be sure he'll always give his all, but i can't help but think we're going to have to replace him in the near future. Saying that, i've no problem with giving him the rest of the season to see if he improves further.
