I expect Gino could get him for about £4.5m.

    Close enough you'd think?

    So £4.5m for the player.

£4m for the magic picture and copyright to the estate of Oscar Wilde.

£250m for make up for Lesley Joseph.

    Bargain!

Genuine question - Just been reported that Leicester have rejected a £20m bid from Bournemouth for Gray and said they have no intention of selling him. If Shakespeare can't stand him, why would they do that? Surely he's likely to take Mahrez's place in the side?

As an aside, he's done nothing to be worth £20m. Just shows how hard it must be for Gino to get genuine value in this market and likely why we haven't signed a striker yet - he probably never been quoted a price less than £30m for anyone!

The fact Leicester have rejected the bid from Bournemouth probably has nothing to do with Shakespeare's liking or disliking of Gray. Leicester currently have tabled bids for three of their players ( Mahrez, Gray & Tom Lawrence ) they also have Chelsea sniffing round Drinkwater. If we were in a similar situation, do you think Gino would sell to the first bid coming in?

This is why it's so frustrating. We are clearly in a better position than any club in the Championship but when it comes to our counterparts in the EPL, we are very near the bottom of the pile when it comes to finances.

We have to always box clever and we have done already in the market. To have signed Chalobah, Hughes and Femenia for only £9.5m in transfer fees tells you how shrewd the club are. Richarlison is someone who's at the top end of our price range, and it goes to show how hard it is to get quality over the line. We have to take a punt on £11.2m because others are hesitant on the work permit/EU passport situation. We sneaked in and got him on the back of that.

So now, it looks like we've exhausted many possible avenues and are looking at players like Lennon on loan just to get by. He may even come in and prove useful, but he's only really a stop-gap.

To get a striker, it's going to be even more difficult. The loan market is a possible way to go, but I think we'll do well to get someone who is better than Deeney, Okaka on a budget. We could well spend up to £20m, but that doesn't seem to cut it anymore......and this is a huge problem for a club like Watford.

This is why I can't understand why we're not in for Lucas Perez. 13m is a bargain for a striker who has proven he's more than capable in the Premiership.

Are you on commission for every time you mention him? As for "more than capable" I can't see how 11 appearances (the longest of which was 72 mins) and 1 goal leads to that conclusion.

No of course not. But for example, if Southampton bid £10m for Capoue and we knew that Silva isn't a fan of him, would we reject it and say he's not for sale? Or would we quietly reject the bid but tell them how much we want?

I'd have thought if Gray was a disruptive influence, then surely they would quote the price they want to Bournemouth?

    MORE ON PEREZ’S FUTURE

Lucas Perez's agent, Rodrigo Fernandez Lovelle, also explained how it is Arsenal's decision on where his client will play next season, with the Gunners intent on holding out for £13.5m.

"Perez is a footballer who has a three-year contract with Arsenal and his future depends entirely on the decision of the club," Lovelle continued.

"If the club decide to close the transfer for him they must convince Arsenal.

"Which clubs can reach an agreement with Arsenal can sign him. There is no problem for us."

Surely, we could make this happen!!

I also think we should go in for Perez.

I also think Bournemouth willy-nilly plucking big transfer fees out the air is a sure sign that their owners do not treat their club as a business, but more of a hobby.

I don't have an issue with what Bournemouth are doing. They are just doing what a lot of clubs are doing and spending a lot of money - who knows whether it is within their means or not. Time will tell. It does have an air of what QPR were trying to do a few years ago when Flávio Briatore waltzed in and tried to turn them and Loftus Road into a 'boutique' football club/stadium.

Personally, given where Bournemouth were a few years ago, I'd be very surprised if they were gambling the future of the club on a few big/expensive signings so my immediate hunch is that they can perfectly afford what they are doing.

Bournemouth have a £20m bud rejected according to SSN. Howe loves spunking 20ms. He isn't going to be sold.

If a club Bournemouth's size, with the same amount of seasons in the Prem as us, can bid £20mil for players then there is no reason why we shouldn't be able to either.

Ideally we would be as prudent as possible, but hopefully it doesn't come back and bite us as falling back to the Championship would lose us much more money, and our lack of quality in the final third is still a genuine concern.

  31. Its easy to forget how close we were to going under over the years, or the time we had to sell the ground. Portsmouth... QPR... Coventry... Rangers... Weeds... recent history is full of clubs who lived beyond their means and ended up broke. Let Bournemouth chase the dream, when the owner gets bored it will all come crashing down. I'm very glad Gino is a prudent owner.

Thank god fans like you aren't in control of recruitment. There are a couple of reasons why we could bid £20m for players but there are many more why we don't and most likely won't.

I agree for a striker we will most likely have to pay out a large fee - that's just the market this summer.

Just have a sense of realism, this isn't Championship Manager.
