If Troy Deeney is a maverick then mavericks aren't what they used to be.

I would much rather listen to Troy giving honest replies than virtually every other player who gives bland soundbites. I really don't care how controversial he may be as this also raises the profile of the club. I enjoy that we get talked about rather than ignored as happens with so many other nondescript outfits like say Norwich.

I think too much time with media has not done Troy any favours. He'd be better concentrating on being a footballer not a media personality (plenty of time for that after retirement)

Troy's popularity with the media is about the only ace we have in our hand in terms of getting them to begrudgingly pay any attention to us, and fans of most other teams genuinely do also sit up and take note. My mate was in a barber's today and the Arsenal supporting barber next to him was apparently chatting with a Spurs supporting client about us and Deeney, and how they liked the two. I can't see anything wrong with it myself, and long may it continue.

Of course, I also just enjoy watching interviews/insight from one of our own players, and I can't say it didn't make me smile when he talked about liking being synonymous with Watford in the minds of most football fans.

Deeney probably was amazed when snakes first came in. I think the whole squad was, and us as fans were over the moon when we first got him.

Our results bar the city home game we’re above expected and that level of football we had not seen since when QSF came in. After the dreadful season we had with Wally and close to relegation at times, the new life Snakey brought and his team tactics filtered through the squad. Let’s face it, we were looking like a top ten side before EvertonGate.

When things began to slide it was not just Deeney the noticed his lack of effort it was everyone. His demea in interviews lacked his usual vibes, and defeats didn’t bother him. It was hurting the fans, the club and the players.

Why it took Gino so long to get rid of him still astounded me. Gracia on the other hand has got us playing well, mich better than we thought he could. Take the Manure game, we could of folded SH and got tanked four or five. Instead we rolled up sleeves, dug in and won the second half.

I admit we do need to play better in the first halves of games now because relying on crap finishing and awesome defending cannot hide our poor play for 45 of the 90 all season long.

Gracia has got us drilled, and even Gray is playing better now. His relationship with Deeney continues to develop in a football sense and the goals will come.

For all his comments on media he is honest and doesn’t hold back, I give him credit for that, but knowing what to say in the moment when put on the spot cannot be easy.

If he continues to do the majority of his talking on the pitch and less off it, that would be a benefit to him and the club.

Watched the interview and it was, well, a standard Deeney interview - it's a bit boring now as we've seen it so many times but certainly a bit more interesting than interviews from others managers and players (including our own) as they're all the same old boring cliched drivel.

I’m sure Deeney is briefed by our own press officers before he speaks on shows like MNF, likewise producers will surely have been given guidelines about what to ask and what to avoid. He’ll also likely be in pre-show meetings and have a solid idea about what he’s going to be asked to talk about. The conversation isn’t organic, it’s being directed and controlled by the producers.

He’s doing a good job at the minute of cultivating his no-nonsense media persona, but that also means a lot of what he talks about is part of his planned strategy. Also helps that he’s playing well and gives him a bit more credibility.

Watford replacing Marco Silva with Javi Gracia has got to be one of the smartest bits of business this season.

Marco Silva's taken charge of 47 Premier League games. He has only one more victory than Steve Kean managed.

Everton could face heavy sanctions for tapping up Marco Silva. the most serious punishment could see them being made to keep the clown in charge until the end of the season

Marco Silva is the most overrated manager in the premier league

Marco Silva acting like it’s a hard-luck story because Everton created more than Arsenal

Well, Marco. It’s not really rocket science & it’s also not luck. Arsenal have 2 lethal finishers while you decided to stick with 2 bang average strikers in Tosun & Calvert-Lewin this summer

    I agree.

Deeney is pretty much the biggest personality outside the top 6.

    Whiney Wilfred!

    Steptoe?

Maybe only Richie Boy can claim the same media profile.

If this helps bring a more intelligent understanding of WFC from the press & maybe even the punditeriat, then Forza Troy.

    That's very kind, Jumbo.

I came back from Scotland on Friday armed with a haggis.

    Maybe that made the difference.

What's more damning for Marco Silva, more than anything else, is the success Watford are having right now. This tells me he's all hype and nothing else.

Would Watford have been a force under Silva without Richarlison, Deulofeu, Cleverley and Chalobah, as has been the case this season? IMO, it would have been impossible. Silva would be blaming injuries as he's doing at Everton right now.

We are so much better off without Silva and have got a vastly superior coach in Gracia. Even if it doesn't work out with Gracia long term (and things can change quickly in football), he's proving he can make a good team with a lot less than Silva ever had.

It must be galling for Everton fans to see where Watford are without Silva. They've taken Silva and Richarlison away from us but we're still thriving, whereas they are clearly struggling. It's only a matter of time before they turn in numbers. There are already groups calling for his head, but I suspect they are the kneejerk element. If Everton fail to beat Fulham at the weekend, then I think he'll be under mounting pressure and even some of the mainstream fans will turn on him.
