Crouch or Heskey

IMHO its no contest, it has to be Crouch!!!

Heskey did OK against a team of no hoper's, but he just cannot score goals!!! No disrespect meant, but our own Hendo could have done just as good a job as Heskey did yesterday

Now take a look at Crouch, there is no way of knowing this for sure, but I think that Crouch would of buried that sitter that Heskey blasted over the bar, and I'm sure he could have done everything else that Heskey did, just as well, if not better.

Why people are even suggesting that Heskey should be in the team ahead of Crouch is beyond me

Its a no brainer, Crouch is every bit as good a target man as Heskey, but more importantly, he is "A PROVEN GOAL SCORER"!!! Heskey is NOT!!!

Crouch is a better player, and gets goals which is what matters.

But Heskey was better than 'ok' yesterday, and those bunch of 'no hopers' are a decent team, on the same amount of points as us (albeit having played 1 more game). Heskey imo is not a very international standard , but he played well yesterday, and deserves his place in the squad in the short term.

It's a hard one, you have got to look at the amount of goals Owen has scored with Heskey alongside him. They know each others game plans. Where as Crouch doesn't. Crouch als gives away a lot of fouls due to his height when heading the ball.

I like Crouch, but i'm still unsure about him and Owen alongside each other. I also think Crouch needs to move away from Liverpool, to be guaranteed football week in and week out.

    - Hendo doesn't have the touch or pace to do what Heskey did yesterday, Heskey's passing and use of his chest was outstanding, stop being silly.

    - Perhaps Crouch would have scored it, perhaps he would have missed, nobody knows.

    - People are suggesting Heskey should play because he's earnt the chance to start on Wednesday thanks to yesterday's performance.

    - As for doing well against no hopers well here's a list of the international teams Crouch has scored against:

    Uruguay
    Hungary
    Jamaica
    Trinidad & Tobago
    Andorra
    Estonia
    Macedonia

Now i reckon Israel would beat 6 out of those 7 and would give Uruguay a decent match.

Heskey to start on Wednesday !

No he doesn't, Heskey was only in the team because Crouch was banned, otherwise he would probably not even made the squad, not alone the team!!!

Even if Heskey had played out of this world, which he did not IMHO, I would still bring Crouch back, FFS he is currently the most consistent scorer for England, and as a target man he does just as good a job as Heskey did yesterday.

As I said before its a no brainer, CROUCH MUST BE BROUGHT BACK!!!

To solve this problem, I think we should bring back Ian Wright, I'm sure him and Shaun would link up well.

Alright mate calm down ;) I was saying that Heskey is not a proven goalscorer, but he does have qualities that other strikers do not, if you actually read what i said, then you'll see that I said that Crouch is the goalscorer, and thats what matters. I'm only saying that Heskeys performance yesterday was good, and Israel are a decent team, and as Chewitt has rightly pointed look at the teams that Crouch has scored against.

I'm not defending Heskey, my personal opinion is that for the most of the time, he is a sack of sh*t, but personally his performance warranted him a place in the squad, due to current injury/ban situation.

I am of the opinion that Crouch should start the next game.

Ok, I was being a bit tongue in cheek about Hendo ;)

However, Owen has a scored a hat-rick for England with Crouch as his strike partner, and I don't know this for a fact, but I am pretty sure he has scored other goals playing along side him too?

I don't know all the statistics, but I do know that Heskey has only scored FIVE goals for England in close on FIFTY appearances, against all standards of opposition, some better and some worse than the list you say Crouch has scored against.

I don't know how many goals Crouch has scored for England, but I am pretty sure it is "MORE THAN DOUBLE" what Heskey has scored, in "LESS THAN HALF" the appearances that Heskey has made!!!

    JUST DO THE MATHS

PS albangura9, I was not losing my temper, I was just making a point, sorry if you took me wrong :angel3:

Owen has scored a hat-trick alongside Heskey too whilst Heskey has scored against the likes of Spain, Germany and Denmark. Players should be picked on merit and Heskey's performance deserves a starting place on Wednesday, not to mention Crouch has played very little football this season.

In all around 120 minutes of football, in 3 games none of which have been in the last 24 days. No football for 3 weeks + means he isn't going to be particularly sharp and chances are is lacking fitness.

Looks like a poll attached to this thread might be in order, trouble is I don't know how to set one up, can someone else do it ?

To have a poll added to an existing thread you'll need to ask a mod.

Well Mr duty Mod, can you set up a poll asking which two should play up front against Russia, giving the options of Crouch, Heskey, Owen, Johnson, Defoe or other.

Maybe some of you may think it should be Heskey and Crouch or any other combination?

Happy to oblige. Simple choice, Crouch or Heskey?

Heskey for me. He worked his nuts off yesterday and played a massive part in the win. Israel didn't have a clue how to deal with him, and he was key man in breaking down many Israel attacks.

He deserves to start against Russia.

Based on yesterdays performance it has to be Emile.

Maybe it looked different on tv than actually being there but Heskey was very good.

And VOR, Crouch could not have done what Heskey did yesterday. Heskey is strong and wins the ball for flick ons.

No braoner - heskey should play although it will be a lot harder against the Russkies.

What a load of rubbish...if you think the job of a striker is just to score goals then you're totally wrong.

Heskey and Owen work as a PARTNERSHIP, Owen being the goal scorer and Heskey doing the 'ugly' things.

I notice how no one moans about Rooney's sh*t goal scoring record for England...he's an overhyped ****.

Crouch is useless in the air, he has no pace or strength. He's quite an intelligent player but as a foil for Owen he's nowhere near as good as Heskey.

It's no suprise to me that Heskey and Owen both clicked yesterday and played well together!!

    Neither.

Crouch is awful, Heskey is old.

If I had to choose it would be Heskey, but only because Crouch is a moron.

    Heskey is 29.... Hardly old!!

Crouch ain't awful either. What games do you watch? Crouch just gets targeted by refs because of his height, he isn't really a target man that has the ball played to his head, as most people know, he's a lot better with the ball at feet. I chose Heskey because i thought he played well yesterday, and it will give Crouch more of a motive to do well when he comes on. The team played well yesterday, so why change it?

  29. PotGuy

    PotGuy Forum Fetishist

True its not old. I thought he was 33. Point reclaimed.

Crouch is awful IMO. He doesn't have a particularly good shot, he doesn't really have any outstanding skill on the ball, his passing is a bit dodgy and most of his goals seem to be in the 6 yard box off his immensely long shins.

He is also inhumanly tall, which I choose to hold against him as he makes the rest of our team look shorter.

Why isn't there an option saying neither?

Crouch is a mutant that can't jump!

Heskey blazed one over the bar from 5 yards out, put a free header wide and fell over a couple of times, still got all his old flair then!

what has Defoe got to do to get in that bloody side?

  34. Cude>2<

Personally i think Defoe needs to move away from tottenham to a team that he is guarenteed to play every week. Tottenham have to much competition in there team IMHO

I would go for heskey. I am not his biggest fan at all but you can not argue the fact that Owen seems a better player playing with him. I think it was king ****bler himself Graham Poll that said referees target Crouch for fouling and he does gives far too many fouls away, disrupting our attacking play.

Heskey will never score many goals but has started the season well, plays regulary and has been scoring some goals. Crouch has not. As a partnership Crouch and Owen are less dangerous than Heskey and Owen in my opinion as Owen plays better with Heskey.
