Or, more generally, our batting. Our 5-7 broke records in this match for ineffectuality. Hoick out Moeen (simply too loose both bowling & batting) & have Somerset Leach as the spinner. Gloves to Buttler & instruct the bolshy ginger Bairstow that he doesn’t choose where he bats & that he is opening. I’d also relieve young Root from captaincy duties & appoint him as our number 3. Finally, monkey glands for Sir Jimmy. He’s our series winner.
Root should tell the Umpires beforehand that if Bairstow asks for a referral then they should ignore him.
Probably better prep that we won like that than dominant from start to finish though the manner of the victory was very unfortunate for Ireland who after 3 days didn't deserve to end up in the history books as the lowest test scorers at Lords. Listened on TMS and JA sounded quite sorry for them. All the great work undone in less than 20 overs.
Do Ireland see T20 as the longer format? It was premature to give Ireland test status. They don’t have a first class set up & I suspect they have had a coincidental golden generation who have had opportunities in the county championship. They may well become the European Zimbabwe. Also probably premature to give Afghanistan test status but expect great things in the medium term. Extensive red ball leagues & outstanding role models. Their problem is the men in blazers.
