If the rule is so clear, why did the umpires get it “wrong”? No suggestion of any error on the radio commentary, either.
Yep. Actually it turns out that we lost but slipped the umpires and rule makers a few ££££s to con our way to the title. I'm supporting NZ from now on.
Anyway, getting back to joviality. Will Hughes trolling Daniel Bachmann over the cricket and Daniel's response to Kabs really tickled me for some reason. https://twitter.com/wjhughes19/status/1150487593940918272
Roy calmly set himself before throwing & look how alert Buttler was when receiving. He was 8 yards down the wicket to gather in the ball. If he'd stayed at the stumps, Guptill would have been comfortably home. The overthrow issue is unfortunate, esp with Taufel now weighing in in the OZ press. Far more important was the luck NZ enjoyed in winning the toss & finding conditions resembling Dunedin in springtime.
I quite agree. But there were four umpires at the match. And no one on a very experienced TMS team saw any problem. What has Taufel said? EDIT: I've read it now.
After May 18, I imagine Javi has banned all mention of football in pre season. Can we dream of Hildreth inbound?
As a law, it is virtually unenforceable. It is unreasonable to expect the umpire to be watching both fielder's point of release & the relative position of the batsmen. In fact, impossible if you're not Marty Feldman. Taufel probably just answering a mischievous Oz journo question but an unfortunate intervention. I don't believe he has any link with international cricket for several years. https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/...judgement-awarding-six-runs-says-simon-taufel
Yes brilliant fielding. Imagine the pressure knowing it was all on that play. Would have been so easy to throw before the ball was properly in hand or break the stumps before the ball was in the gloves. Looked straightforward but really wasn't.
I was at Lord's yesterday and it's up there. The Deeney goal probably just tops it for pure emotion, but yesterday was almost that level for 2 hours straight. I've been to Lord's many times but never seen it like it was yesterday. Unbelievable.
An interesting point considering The Ashes 2005 squad all received MBE's I think. I wonder how it feels to be Dawson or Curran, both in the squad but did nothing but bring the drinks out. Imagine your grandchildren asking about the winners medal and having to say all I did was make the orange cordial
Look, at the end of the day, the umpires decision is final and the result stands. Please do not take this great Irish victory away from us. We have had very little success in the sport in recent years.
Vince took several catches although, as a sub, none will be officially credited to him. Impressive stats. Our slowest batsmen scored at the rate of our worst economy bowler. Recipe for success. http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/en..._by_team.html?id=12357;team=1;type=tournament
A normal sized netball fan. Actually, not even a small netball fan. I appreciate the channels are trying to build an audience but I find the 'wrap it in the flag' ads for the women's football & the netball unappealing. A bit Boris.
Aussie saying we got an extra run which wasn't allowed . https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport Well I am not sure New Zealand winning would have been any better for them!
The closest sensation for me was this year's Cup semi. The series of events were so extraordinary that I ceased to be nervous. Just a slightly detached feeling that everything was going to be fine.
And Geoff Hurst's second goal may not have crossed the line. That's the special way England wins World Cups, and that's what makes us great.
Just out of interest, anyone know how they would have settled it had NZ scored the same amount of boundaries as us? Wickets taken? Net run-rate? Another super-over?
