Have been all season, ever since Mr.Young decided stupid floated corners with no pace or particular direction were the way forward!
Was the point I was making UAE. Aidy says we keep learning from our set-backs, but ain't seen much evidence yet.
Probably because we do not play well enough or have the quality to recover from 'set-backs' unlike in the Championship.
if the opposition practice defending set piece all the time and are expecting quality balls, then surely the best thing to do tactically is to mess with their heads and do it bad?
we did actually have a proper set piece effort yesterday when bouazza and stewart worked the shooting opportunity. we were soon back to over hit corners towards malky though.
Get one player to flick it up then another to punt it high up in air in the box and it was cause all sorts of problems.
williams and williamson both took the two free kicks we had yesterday. that just shows the lack of quality we have from our squad to take set pieces.
It's the same with free kicks in front of goal where there is a shooting chance. We all know that one of the 2 players stood behind the ball will move away, the other will knock it to him and then his shot will be blocked. If I know that is going to happen then so will the opposition!! We've done this all season and it worked once, first time at Wigan when Bouazza scored. The only time I can remember us having a direct shot at goal was when Young scored against Hull in the League Cup. Is there really no one in the team that can take a free kick and have a shot at goal? At least there might be a chance of scoring or a rebound that could be knocked in.
I found corners and all set peices ridiculously Frustrating against Bolton. The organisation that was so key last year aswell as our attacking threat has dissapeared.
