I'm gutted tbh. I can see John being worth a hell of a lot more than £2mil in a couple of years and he would bag for fun in the Championship if we went down. I hope we don't come to regret this if he hits form for one of our rivals.
Disappointed perharps? I am - I see John as the only true Prem Striker we could have got. The rest would be gambles. Also his age mean he has loads of development in him still.
Cost me 22K 'Orns to change the Forum name last night Seriously, greed in any way shape or form annoys me. When it's shown by a player wanting to play for my beloved Watford then it trebles my annoyance.
That does make sense. I seems very unlike Aidy to so openly persue a player only to then be shocked by his wage demands (surely he'd have sounded the agent out first) unless something dodgy has gone on.
Please say we at least get Earnshaw now instead, who would be better than John, with the extra money we might have coming in from Ash. I can't really think of any other proven top strikers we could get instead, except for maybe Harewood.
Best off out of it if the agent has got involved...the one thing we all don't want is a return to over paid players...Maybe he'll have a change of heart sometime today...clutching at straws but the Shittu deal had looked dead.
COLLINS JOHN has rejected a £2million move to Watford after they failed to match his personal demands, writes Ben Kinsella at The Sun. The Fulham ace held talks with the rock-bottom Hornets last night but will not lower his £20,000-a-week wage demands. The Cottagers are keen to sell John, 21, and had agreed a fee with Watford earlier in the day. Watford chief Aidy Boothroyd still hopes to resurrect the deal but will have to break the club’s salary cap to do so. John has started just nine league games this season after falling out with boss Chris Coleman. Coleman said: "Collins’ agent told us he wanted to leave and we accepted a good offer for him. "The disappointing thing from my point of view was that Collins told his agent he had spoken to me about it, which he hadn’t. "Collins has got it all to do in terms of proving himself."
I suspect he was probably told we could go as high as £15k. He viewed that as OK. Other clubs came in. He's taking a gamble to try and get £20k. This is Deal or No Deal in the football world. Personally I hope he's got £5k in his box but that is why Football is going to the *******. Bottom line is, Football is a business that pretends to be a sport these days.
Does he want to play football or does he want to just count his money, not the attitude I want to see at this club, I say tell him to pi$$ off. My Fulham supporting mate when asked what he thought of him said "He's *****"
Then wave goodbye to a huge percentage of proven Premiership players as well, as a lot are where they are and earn what they earn on names alone. That's the name of the game.
Yes, there is always a sense of earning off your name rather than what you do on the pitch, look at Beckham now!
This illustrates what we are up against a foreign mercenary who has no affiliation with the country he is playing in, net alone Watford. After his injury and problems with Chris Coleman he needs someone to rescue his ailing career - potential means nothing if he has a flawed character. He has been criticised for being lazy so clearly money doesn`t motivate him to play - only to sign contracts. Having said that if he was a proven on form performer of good character Fulham wouldn`t be selling, or have described the offer as Good! I bet Ray Lew in smiling.......;D
There's to many pages to read!!! whats the latest on him, has a rejected a contract? was it not us with the bid accepted??? whats going on then???
