Charlton post match anaylsis

:rant: Their free kick, Tamas is on the halfway line, we make the substitution, on comes Doris, and lumbers into the penalty area putting 11 men behind the ball, the free kick is taken, we partially clear it but hey now there is no outlet so back it comes, voila a second goal for Charlton.:rant:

:rant: When will we learn we were 2 - 0 up at half time so we were doing something right, why change it??? I put it down to panic. Ohhh dear we have a 2 goal lead lets defend, defend, defend!! Well no next time attack and keep attacking, thats how we got the 2 goal lead in the first place!:rant:

The ref was a disgrace, agreed. But how many of the subs were forced on us? Stewart I'm guessing was injured and Francis was one foul away from a red card. Aidy did dither with the last one but then it was Hendo's initial header which cleared the ball.

 

You know those temporary signs that get put up on stretches of road that flash SLOW DOWN if you are driving too fast, we need one that flashes TOO DEEP when we start to defend a line across the penalty area. For the entire second half we defended too deeply and Charlton goals were always going to come as a result.

It was 37 minutes before the ref gave a decision our way; that must be a record for one-sidedness and it wasn't because we were playing dirty and Charlton weren't angels. In the second half the linesman on the Rous side was absolutely appalling.

However, it was a great match to watch. The front line was so so SO much better than usual and I thought Williams did a great job in midfield. It was good to have some height there too.

 

1. The team on the first half played excellently.
2. We desperately need Foster and Stewart in the team each week. After an initial promising period early this year Lee, had no command what so ever of the box.
3. Priskin lacks match fitness. I would have liked to have seem him go on loan earlier this season as he looks very promising. His control of the ball today was superb.
4. We are not a team who can sit back and defend.
5. 4-5-1 is how we should play at Plymouth and Cavailli should be played in the middle of midfield.
6. Bouazza looked more dangerous as a winger.

 

First half was fantastic, best we have played this season. Second half we set out to defend when we should of set out to score more. We didn't deserve to draw but thats what happens at this level when you don't defend properly.

Positives:

Fantastic performances by everyone (yes that includes Mahon and Francis) especially Priskin and Williams who were superb. Two good goals created by two good crosses and I felt that we should have scored more. Cavalli got really stuck in as well when he came on.

Negatives:

Carp defending for the two goals, negative approach second half. Mariappa was exposed big time at left back and the substitutions perhaps changed the game.

But at the end of the day I actually didn't really care that we conceded because we are down anyway and I had watched a fantastic game of football.

 

For those who weren't there Aidy seemed to play the midfield in a "kite-shaped" formation which worked very well indeed.

First half Williams wins knock downs from back four, plays killer passes that allow Mahon to feed Smith but mainly Bouazza.
Charlton midfield do not get a sniff. They missed Andy Reid like mad.
Priskin also missed two more good chances to score.. one when away with just the keeper to beat, the other a cross (hendo would have demolished this)

Second half Stewart goes off and Mariappa switches to left back and looks way out of sorts there. Gets the wrong side and in a knot for their first goal.
But mainly Charlton got back in the game by nobody picking up Song -repeatedly allowed to waltz upfield unchallenged.
And when they brought on the Chinese fella, this unchecked threat doubled.
Francis, having been dominant in the first half put hospital balls towards Boozer and Tommy or out of play, as well as failing to track back. (like last week) That is why I thought he was subbed for Cavalli.
But Aidy put Cavalli out wide left, put Bouazza at the top of the kite, leaving the players apparently confused (language barrier?) about who was to do what for a while.
That said, Song and the other Chinese guy kept winning possession for they went for all out attack.
Aidy is right, we threw it away. I could see why Hendo came on. He did win the header to try to clear. priskin just wasn't trying to tackle back before that....
In short they had the midfield secong half, we did first half but did not score the three or four then that we could have.
Mariappa is no left back.

 

Exactly! Not quite sure where this talk of 4-5-1 has come from, it clearly wasn't ???

 

I would have thought(from the commentary)that we were playing a more 4-2-1-3.

UEA critisising a Ref :rant: It wasn't just me then :rulez:

I thought his linesmen were even worse though :sign5: were they on!!!

 

Can't really pick on the linesman as I was no where near him but the referee was the worst kind: he was picky and only towards one team. Everything we did was a foul, everything Charlton did was fine. Either both instances are fouls or neither are. Add that to his crap performance in the first game of the season and I'm beginning to dislike Mr.Walton...
