Cars and that

I started off in a Fiesta (well "started" off - It lasted 5 days before it hit a fence/ditch/nearly an OAP) but then moved onto a simple 1.2 8v clio and I loved it. The clutch went but that's simple wear and tear, and other than that it had the well known electrical faults (airbag and service light on/fog light flashes when braking) - which is usually sorted by securing the wires under the passenger seat. Other than that it was faultless and could even take a bruising in an accident.

I liked the Clio so much, that after 5 years I moved from my 1.2 which was still strong at 120k to a Cliosport that I currently have. Had my first real issue with it on Friday when it overheated - but on further inspection that was owing to a stone hitting the radiator and causing a pin hole. Really love the Cliosport - It's rather quick, handles like its on rails and I don't find it too uncomfortable (though some of my passengers do)

I doubt that's got anything to do with the car, it's probably your driving ;)

Renault wiring is junk, you're right. My brothers dashboard failed completely twice. the bolts holding the sunroof in Also sheared off. you could hear them rolling around between the roof and headlining as he turned corners. Was a nice Clio other than that. Free insurance for 2 years as a 20 year old was a bargain.

They're not bad cars for new drivers. The wiring just needs a little work on it now and again. One under the passenger seat, and the other issue I've found are to do with the headlight clusters. I like the Cliosports, but you do get some rattles - and some of the gearboxes are made of cheese.

Great value for money and the engines are decent. Agreed. Saw one of those 2 seat rear engined ones the other day.[IMG]
Meistermobile will still have it off the lights though.

Is this a hairdresser's forum? Fiesta's, Polos and such are for girls. That's why they look all cute and stuff.

Walnut finish, pipe cleaning kit, moustache mirror - these are the signs that you're buying a man's car.

I would love that car, as I would look like Noddy in his toy car, peering over the windscreen and filling all the seats!

The V6 is awesome. They go for 5 figures these days - saw one the other day for £20,000. Would love to have one though as a weekend toy.

What is the Meistermobile these days? Use to be a VW if I recall?

I just looked up the spec on the V6 as I've seen them around, and knew they were 3.0L so assumed they must be big power, but only 255?

There's a 230 version as well. Think it's only slightly faster than the standard 172's and 182's (like 0.5 seconds 0-60?)

Not sure about the engines in the V6 but I know the F4R engines on the 172's and 182's are pretty much tuned to the maximum, so you can't get more power out of them cheaply either.

Polo GTI the curent one with DSG. Only running a 1.4 but twin charged to 180bhp so 0-60 in less than 7 sec

I'm now leaning more Towards a nearly new Seat Leon or Ibiza, or a Vauxhall Astra GTC, any of which likely being in a 2.0l TDI engine. Thoughts?

Also, what are peoples opinions on car leasing?

It's just a form of finance so it has to suit your circumstances. Generally if you want a new car every couple of years and have little intention of owning it at the end then PCP is the way to go. We have 1 car leased and the other is covered by a bank loan. I've also done hire purchase in the past.

i've a C220 with only 25k on the clock and it drives like a dream.

The only thing that i would change is that the boot isn't as big as it could be

  21. Went to Manchester earlier this week and got 70.6 mpg out of my E220 in cruise at 70mph for 2+ hours - pretty incredible considering the size of car. That's only a couple of points away from a Toyota Prius.

With the added bonus that you're not driving a Toyota Prius.

Seats are very good. Can't fault the VAG DSG gearbox in my Polo, certainly worth the extra imho. I considered an Ibiza and would have bought one but they didn't do a 5 door sporty one so went VW Polo instead which is basically the same car.

For that sort of money don't discount the Skoda Octavia. If you're not a badge snob you can get a much bigger car for the same cash. They do a VRS diesel as well which is rapid.

Starting to like the look of the new Infinti Q50. It's part of Nissan's 'posh' arm. They don't get a great rating from the auto press though but then they'll always prefer Beemers etc in this class.

Oooo that's nice. Front of a Jag XF back of a Maserati Quatraporte.

Mind you take off the big shiny wheels and body kit for the production version and it'll look a little less appealing.

Yes that's the Eau Rouge version. The others are little less sporty but still beefy enough. They do a 3.7 V6 hybrid which does 0-60 in 5.2 secs. Options are flippin expensive though.

That Infiniti is a nice ride. I'm no longer biased having left their employ... I got an Altima and an all-electric Nissan Leaf on the way out the door though. Genuinely enjoying the EV so far.

And similar to NathWFC's request, can anyone suggest a second hand poor-man's BMW type for around 10k? I need to get the Mrs a new motor. Was thinking Insignia.

At first I was decompressing from the constant travel and ridiculous chores and errands that were part of my job, then I watched the World Cup, and now I'm getting bored and need to start looking for a new job.

(The story goes my company eliminated the position I had and encouraged me to apply for jobs internally elsewhere. All those jobs required relocation, and most to places people want to be from but not actually live in...like Eugene Oregon, Spokane Washington, Nashville Tennessee. My mrs has a great job close to home here and it wouldn't be fair to dislodge her from that for what would likely be an underwhelming job elsewhere. So I left. I got a skimpy but extant severance package, too. Bottom line, I am a kept man for the time being.)

Still get a BMW, just an older one, low mileage with history. Plenty out there.

Or a Merc or Lexus dependant on what size and engine spec you desire.
