Supposedly interested after talks broke down with Crystal Palace. https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...e-wenger-premier-league-title-moment-of-truth
Whilst I think he would be a decent signing, all being fit and healthy (as unlikely as that is) RB/RWB is one of our most stocked positions isn’t it? p.s. West Brom are our rivals.
C'mon chaps, he's not that bad. The reason I would be against it is that I can't see him starting ahead of Janmaat or Amrabat when fit. As HF says, we should be looking to strengthen more on the other side of the defence
we've got Mason on the left hand side, he should be considered as Holebas back up (whether Wally sees that I dont know), as Zuniga is carp.
For a few million maybe, but not for seven. I would be on the side of buying him before reading the article, however wanting better terms at Palace than at Arsenal, when he essentially needs to knuckle down and prove himself, is a real warning sign.
I'd love to see more of Mason but the comments Wally made after the Burton match rather shows that he doesn't see him as ready yet sadly. Also not on the bench agains Boro. TBF he could be right, he played well in the cup game the gap in class between Burton & most of the Prem is huge.
Mason is 19 and Sinclair is 20 but somehow everyone on this forum expects them to be starting XI Premier League quality. Honestly confusing, these are basically kids still eligible to play U-21 football. I'd rather we got proper experienced players in before relying on either of those two for backup.
Agreed, Success is only 20 & he looks good enough. Walter said he will start when fit. I suspect Mason & Sir Clive aren't quite ready yet though.
Absolutely agree. Mason came on in a ragged performance against Spurs, but lost his man totally twice, had a few nice touches and got rave reviews because he was (1) home grown and (2) not totally ****. He then did well against a hugely limited Burton side which will be in League 1 very soon. Promising, but no more and he needs time to be in and around the squad. Nowhere near ready yet
Right are we buying any more 29-33 year old foreign players who are injury prone and haven't been spectacular elsewhere?
I don't see any downside to this transfer. HG, plays for a big club so must be good, £7m is nothing in today's game and when he turns out rubbish we have another average player on the books who we can't sell.
Jenkinson is not a bad player at all but right back is actually one area that we don't really need to improve. I am more than happy with Daryl Janmaat when he is fit and I would like to see what Dja Djédjé can do as well. I would not be disappointed with the signing but I would be disappointed that the money wasn't spent strengthening an area on the pitch that needs strengthening.
I disagree. We haven't got an established right back. The current 3 options we have are all wi g backs not full backs. We should have kept Nyom just so we had the option of switching to a back four. This would give us the option of changing formation so if true this could be encouraging that Mazzarri may be willing to be that little more flexible on formation.
I think Janmaat can play full back and wing back as thats where Newcastle played him as they played 4-4-2 when he was there.
i understand what you mean, although Janmaat has played as a right back i dont think defensively he is that great. He is certainly better in the opponents half of the pitch than our own half.
Yeah your right thats because Amrabat cannot defend, whereas Janmaat can defend a bit better as he has played as a right back before.
