Exactly, it may be time to pick the tactics to suit the playing staff since the transfer window has closed.
Behrami was fine. In my opinion he was massively outnumbered and after about an hour he visibly tired of trying to do everything himself. I agree it was a game for Watson but probably in place of Pereyra in the middle instead.
Agree with a lot of what has already been said. We were bad. In my opinion, Iggy has to be dropped for Saturday. Unfortunately, I think this is the beginning of the end for Iggy, I can't see him coming good again.
Iggy had an amazing half season, I want things to come good for him as much as anybody but he's now been bad for longer than he was good, how long do you persist with him in the hope he suddenly comes good? Premiership history is littered with strikers who made a massive impact and then disappeared off the face of the earth. Off the very top of my head, papisse cisse, he was a world beater for a few months and then... nothing. Plenty of others I'm sure.
We got out done last night by a team who made the game a championship style game. Fair play to them they played to their strengths and we didnt at all. Iggy needs to come out he is low on confidence and is clearly not doing what he did early last year. Success on the left of a front 3 looks like a real threat and Kenedy on the other side could be useful as well. Deeney needs to stop chasing around everywhere and stay up top. When we did get the ball up there he was behind the play and not offering any support. We all share his frustrations but he needs to keep his position. So far this season I am very concerned about the defending and the number of goals shipped. Last night we looked awful from set pieces. This is one area we need to work on, then again seems a few teams are in the same boat. Saturday is going to be interesting..have to improve the attitude and performance. We rocked up last night thinking we are billy big *******s which I feared we might do. Still like after Utd didnt think we would be in Europe and after last night still dont think we will go down. Only Watford could be so good v Utd and so poor last night...
So the last week has seen us reverse our trend of last season. Beat a big club, lose to one you might expect to be fighting relegation. I really hope last night can be filed under 'bad night at the office..move on'. But it's a worry about conceding so many from crosses. And just one clean sheet in seventeen now. Beating United didn't make us world beaters, and last night doesn't make us relegation fodder. As usual, the truth's probably half way in between. We will find our actual level sometime soon and know what we have to look forward to this year. The team owes us a comeback on Saturday though. Over to you Walter!
Michu - Cheap Swansea player scoring for fun and every FPL managers dream for about 3/4 of a season. Vanished.
Good shout, going further back was it Shefki Kuqi (sp?) who couldn't stop scoring and doing that belly flop celebration? He then disappeared. Also even further back that Brazilian or Colombian striker for boro, he was on fire and then nothing.
Yes but only really near the end when he dodged that 50/50 and the commentator mentioned it. For the first hour he was running around like a blue arsed fly trying to cover both flanks and the edge of our own box.
WHAT HAPPENED LAST NIGHT? - WE PLAYED IN THAT FIRST HALF LIKE WE JUST NEEDED TO TURN UP AGAINST A SUPPOSEDLY WEAKER BURNLEY AND WE'D BEAT THEM EASILY JUST BECAUSE WE BEAT MAN UTD A few other points 1. We didnt start playing until Burnley scored their second goal but by then it was too late because credit to Burnley but they did defend very well. 2. I thought the ref was really poor - stupid bookings for Peryra ( complaining about a dive) and Holebas. We were too distracted by the injustice of it all to defend the corner that led to the opening goal by Jimmy Hendrix but up until that point we played like we were in a purple haze anyway so I guess conceding a goal was inevitable at some point. 3. The media are idiots for not noticing how poor Ighalo is playing. I heard a pundit on MOTD last week saying Ighalo is Watford's star player and is 'worth his weight in gold' for Watford. The truth is we sold a better player called Vydra to a championship club because Ighalo for many months now is unable to control the ball, unable to make a simple pass to one of our team mates, and his goalscoring ability has deserted him. 4. We shouldnt take any game for granted as we are not Man City and we dont have enough quality to think we are superior to the likes of Burnley as that kind of attitude is probably the reason why we lost yesterday. 5. Success and Kennedy look very good and are probably worth starting from now on.
The only thing stupid about the bookings was the players for getting them. Everyone knows the way the dissent rule is currently being enforced. There's no excuse.
Before the match I wanted to see if we had the character to compete at a place like Burnley, but we failed miserably. It will be the same when we play Hull. They will put you under pressure and will not give you a moment on the ball. It’s very disappointing to see by just harassing Watford causes them to fall apart. To accuse a player of not putting a shift in is probably the biggest insult you can give a professional, but there are no excuses for not giving your best. You may not play well or you may lack some technical ability, and that can be tolerated, but you cannot allow for a lack of desire and fight. We do have leaders on the pitch but where were they last night? It’s all very well Deeney getting angry and being brutally honest afterwards, but where was his leadership on the night? Did he dominant his opponent? Did he make things happen? He had a great chance after a superb cross from Pereyra, but could only just cushion the header across the goal, instead of attacking the ball with power. I feel had Burnley been given that chance it would have nestled in the back of our net. Ighalo has to be rested, for his own good. He’s not the player of 2015. He’s been given a long enough run get his form back but now we have Success, who from what I’ve seen of him, deserves his chance in the starting XI. Amrabat does offer something going forward, but is so reckless in his defensive duties, it makes him a liability at the back. Like Ighalo, Britos is a shadow of the player we saw 12 months ago. He used to read the game superbly and his distribution was considered and precise. Now his positional sense is questionable and he appears to launch the ball forward without any thought whatsoever. Behrami probably had the worst game in a Watford shirt last night. He just couldn’t do a thing right, and Capoue went completely missing. I don’t understand why our centre backs are not picking up players from crosses. All too often a ball comes in and there’s no centre back in sight. I think that’s now 7 goals conceded directly from a cross into our box. We have THREE centre backs in there, but all too often it’s another outfield player that’s contesting the ball. That should not be happening. The United game should have really given belief to the side, but last night was appalling from start to finish. The players are not comfortable with the new formation and are being continually asked to adjusted mid-game, but that should not stop players from competing. You have to win the battle against your opponent. If you allow yourself to be dominated, you will lose every single time.
Perhaps it would be wise to wait until we see how we perform against bournemouth before we fill our pants with hot, fresh p iss.
The terrible irony of getting way more points than we ever dreamt of from our seemingly tough opening 5 fixtures, only to start ballsing it up once the fixtures appeared to get easier. If it's any consolation, Liverpool lost 0-2 at Burnley up there too.
Well the good news is I doubt we can get any s*****r than last night so we can expect a better performance against Bournemouth.
Benjani was brilliant for one season at Portsmouth then was very average at Man City Jelavic at Everton looked world class for about 10 games after his move from Glasgow Rangers - a few seasons on he isnt good enough for the Premier League Our former player Danny Graham was brilliant for one season at Swansea then became completely useless Michael Bridges had one season at Leeds where he scored about 30 goals, then disappeared
I always thought Burnley away would be just as tough as the first 5. I was looking at the first 6 games as our tough run, then the next 4 were easier on paper. We just do not seem to get motivated for midweek fixtures. It's been the same for a while now. Swansea, Southampton, Gillingham, Preston, Norwich, West Ham (last season) have all been dreadful performances. I think Spurs, Man Utd and Man City were midweek last season as well, and although we lost all of them they were much better performances. Looks like we can get fired up for the big boys and put in a shift, but give us a run-of-the-mill side in the week and it's a massive turn off for the team and they cannot be bothered.
All good examples, you could look at Bony and Gomis as potential current examples. The long and the short of it is that it's perfectly possible for a striker to perform very well in the premiership and turn to dog poo.
