Just the usual try and out hoof Burnley performance. Nothing of note to see here. Move onto the next game.

Oh my that was dull and painful to watch.

Rodriguez shows Deeney what to do when the balls about to be crossed in, make some kind of move.

The long ball game today didn’t work at all and got worse the more we did it.

    Tragic.

Can you imagine Deeney ever scoring a goal like that? No I can't either.

The idea to play the ball in the air continuously for Burnley to head it away and then for us to lose the second ball, was impeccable.

Damage hasn't been done but an opportunity well and truly lost.

Expecting a much better performance on Sunday

Not a single player, from front to back, including subs gave even a half decent performance.

Every one of them was appalling. They deserved nothing and gave nothing. Given the position we are in in the league, turning out a showing like that, at this stage of the game, with a limited opponent, crippled by injuries and with hardly any rest since they got battered by city, its unforgivable.

    Un-for-givable

These players had no credit in the bank but now they have gone over their overdraft limit.

Utterly shameful. We deserve to be relegated and it looks extremely likely that we will be.

liked your post not cos I liked reading it but cos I agreed.

    what a load of bollox.

I’d have probably brought Pussetto on for Welbeck and mayBe given Pedro a go in the forlorn hope of injecting some energy.

Without hesitation, that is the worst I've seen us play this season considering who we were playing, what was a stake, and with 2 more days rest than them.

****s on the pitch walking around after only being on for 5 mins.

Genuinely would rather us get ****ed 8-0 again by City than lose a game playing and acting like that.

we were ****, never looked like scoring. Better in second half but certainly not doing enough for a win. That was a really good opportunity to build some space, even a point would have been alright. Certainly not terminal but we played right in to their game plan. ********.

It’s still in our hands. We need 3 wins (and maybe a draw or two) with home games against Southampton, Norwich and Newcastle, plus West Ham away. Very doable but just got a whole lot harder.

I don't understand the reluctance of Pearson to try something different when it is plain to see things aren't working.

Why didn't he put on Pedro, for example, when we went a goal down? Blimey, if there is anyone used to playing in the heat, it's him. And instead we send on ******* Gray.

But, yet again, it was a lack of a goalscorer that cost us.

I think we have to hope that bournemuff and wham deserve to be relegated more. Still in a better position than them and Villa. But yeah I don’t disagree with your sentiment.

That was crushing. I have experienced this type of disappointment so many times before. Different decades, different players, different coaches, but same Watford inability to take advantage of a bit of momentum. Only consolation is that there are some awful teams around us. Our desperately poor start to the season is going to drag us down.

Doable? We've won 6 games in 31, 2 of those away. This constant talk of 'in our hands' is probably shared by the players who think they can keep putting it off til next week.

    Is it doable though? Realistically?

We have won 6 games, a number of which were during a purple patch when the new manager came in, and have since reverted to throwing away leads, not turning up, and looking incompetent and impotent all over the pitch without any clear or obvious tactical plan or style of play.

The team is rotten. We are a complete mess.

Welbeck apparently played the full 95 minutes...why. Totally gutless. Pearson appeared to have settled for 0-1 in the way he set up and then managed that in the game. I didn't think he was so passive a manager. I just pray that was a blip and a very poor one at that.

Thankfully everyone else in the relegation battle is **** too, and we still have some decent fixtures to come. For the sake of that is holy, why did we just lump it up to Deeney all game? Food and drink to Mee and Tarkowski...

Oh well, onto Southampton now, presumably the same tactics, you have to hope that we'll get more change out of them

Wellbeck still seems far off any sharpness. Those touches one after another until closed down demonstrated it.

Massina didn't have a good game either. Capoue didn't seem to fancy picking out passed forward. Everything went sideways.

Lucky to get away with only 1-0.

We had the two best chances before their goal. We can create, but we cannot finish. It's pathetic. I know it was hot, but the weather is really no excuse in the end. Burnley dealt with it much better and were organised and worked hard on and off the ball. We were totally clueless with the ball and I think Pearson now needs to bring down the hammer. What we have in this team, has to get us out of this mess. That is the scariest thing about it all. Pre season was a joke, the start of the season under Gracia was terrible, then we had ten matches of boring, defensive football under QSF and still lost more games than we drew.

Pearson is a good manager, I have a lot of time for him, but he must get it into the squad that relying on the three/four sides below us to lose each time is no going to keep us up. There was no urgency at all. We played for a nil nil from kick off and I am sort of glad in one way we did lose, because we have to understand we are not good enough to do that. Welbeck should of scored. Hughes had a glorious chance. Then they go up the other end and score, typical. I am so frustrated tonight, we had a great chane
to pull away and we screwed it up AGAIN. Southampton on Sunday is an even harder game. Pearson needs to step it up, and so does 90% of that side. Great shout box tonight though.

And then the same even after Deeney goes off. Hoof it at dog turd Gray instead.

We completely lack a brain, both as individuals and a collective.

Most one dimensional team in the league, comfortably.

Just a completely bizarre performance. Wrong game plan, executed poorly and we visibly wilted in the heat. We actually fashioned a few opportunities from set pieces for once but couldn’t convert them.

Fortunately everyone else at the bottom is equally as crap as us so this battle will go long. But we won’t have many opportunities to play after everyone knowing a win can send us clear.

Kudos to Burnley though. Even with no crowd they managed to execute the time wasting ball return as extra studious ball cleaner spends time wiping, the two balls on the pitch trick and the forgotten how to tie shoe laces move. A few days training paid off there.

We played well for 20 minutes had a couple of chances and fluffed them. What is amazing is the set up in the first half. Then after the second drinks break the way they reverted to aimless long balls. We succeeded when we passed the ball in and behind. Sarr was getting the ball.

After the drinks break and the goal which was a gift from Capoue (awful performance showboating appalling set pieces) they reverted to the same nonsense. Hit and hope. Why not try Pussetto and Pedro at least. They would give some effort at the least. Gray ahead of Pedro ? The set pieces apart from two were abysmal as well. Floated balls into Pope. Meat and drink. No variation until late on.

They have to win on Sunday. Not to mention the games against Norwich and West Ham. The way they performed today makes that a hard task. The heat cannot be an excuse. We had more rest, a deeper bench and played the wrong tactics initially and failed to make the use of our best asset for the most part and played into their hands. Pearson needs to accept a lot of the blame too. You cannot win matches on the basis of 20 minutes and 25 as against Leicester. Disgraceful effort in terms of commitment, application, use of the brain and determination.

Of course its doable, all the teams below us have played the same number of games and we are not in the bottom 3.

We could be less bad than 3 other teams.

Can anyone summarise how we thought we would win today?

Pearson gets a lot of passes because of these players, but there was no visible game plan that I could see. It was just football for the sake of football. I could not identify how we thought we would hurt them and win the game, or even draw it once we went behind.

How are our set pieces still allowed to be this poor as well? Do they ******* train at all?
