Bournemouth arrogance

I’m not so sure Bournemouth’s lack of penalties is to do with VAR, they’re just crap this season and getting in the opposition box less, the shots on target stats posted earlier are testament to that. I barely remember them getting in our box on Sunday, so they would’ve struggled to get a penalty, VAR or no VAR.

When I was getting my FA badges in Aldershot the rumour was that Fulhams academy were teaching their younger players to dive. Not sure how true that was but still out of order.

Yeah I’m a big believer in ball mastery and body position at this age. A little bit of where to be in and out of position also. But let them switch positions too the lads all have their preferred positions and being a defender is just as popular as playing up top which is surprising.

And it's not just the dodgy penalties and sendings off. It's the fact that defenders were wary of the diving cheats so were a little bit more on the back foot to avoid being suckered. It's hard for defenders psychologically to play their normal game against such cheats. The Bournemouth brand is totally fake. Small plucky fairytale club (billionaire owner), playing football the right way (diving, cheating, harassing the referee).

Had a quick look on their forum and there is a thread about this article and it's fair to say their fans are not happy with it.

Worrying times for Bournemouth if their captain can't see that their way of playing is not working after only taking 4 points from the last 11 games.

Can we have a new thread about their thread please ? I'm really not happy about it. Not happy at all.

That is a very good point. Although I mostly agree with you I imagine VAR does have some part to play. I genuinely wondered when VAR was introduced what impact it would have on Muff.

I called it in the match thread. Their entire success is built on cheating. They know it and they hate us cos we call them out on it.

As soon as they introduce VAR to The Championship they'll be in League 1.

The VAR theory is an interesting one, they’re annoying, whiny little cheats. Only Norwich have outdone them from what I’ve seen at our games this season.

I think when it comes down to it, they’re just ****. They’re only heading in one direction. Get rid of Burnley and Villa too this season and that’ll be three of the more stubborn stains on the toilet that is the Premier League scrubbed away.

I think it's confusing because it's not clear what it's showing. Is it a world without VAR or correcting VAR mistakes? A table showing the latter put us up in 11th last week.

It's misleading because it only shows what would have been if VAR had not been used when it had done so.

This season we've have one VAR overturn in our favour, which was the consolation penalty we got at home to Chelsea.
We've had two overturn against us, Kabasele's yellow changed to a red and the penalty Burnley got (although I am convinced the ref would have given it if VAR wasn't there to check). -> Neither of these calls affected the final outcome of the matches.
We've also had one VAR check that should have changed the on field decision but didn't and that was the penalty appear at Spurs (at that time in the season no VAR decision had overturned a ref's non-penalty call but the following week there were two).

We've mostly lost out to calls where VAR wasn't used and should have been.

Newcastle's equaliser at St. James Park in August and Southampton's equaliser in November ultimately cost us a possible 5 points.
Pereyra's red in the FA Cup which was overturned on appeal.

All other VAR uses have agreed with the on-field referee's decision.

Taking all of that into account.
The one in our favour didn't matter.
The others not in our favour have cost us a potential 7 points.

Having said all of that, the draw at Newcastle was Gracia's last game, had he won that it's possible that he would have stayed a little longer. The loss at Southampton was a blessing in disguise as it led to QSF's sacking and Pearson's appointment soon after.

All goals are automatically ckecked by VAR, aren't they? So these were instances of staying with the onfield decision too. Or is the argument that the play wasn't "rewound" far enough?

Look where we would be if it was. VAR and FA always against us. They hate us. No TV time and even when we are on the telly, it’s about Klopp and Liverpool. The refs are on first name basis with every other player in Prem bar ours. When we get a booking the ref has to walk over, ask the player to turn around so he can get his name and spell it right. This is followed by the word “who” in brackets, in his notepad. It’s a disgrace.

Well, for example, in the case of Newcastle, the VAR officials actually came out after the game and admitted that they had 'missed' the handball, so you can make your own decision about the relative worth of the idea of all goals being checked.

Fair enough, but then it's not quite correct to say "VAR wasn't used". It just wasn't used properly.

Think I read they've only won 12 out of their last 50 PL games, which is awful. Shows it's relegation form over a sustained period, not just a slump this season.

Even worse than that...the VAR ref said "he hadn't actually looked at the specific angle" that showed the ball rolling down the Newcastle player's arm & lay it on a plate for the scorer. I remember people watching on a stream say immediately in the Shoutbox it was a clear handball. Mind you, it was d0gshyt3 Pawson on VAR.
