Ok, so I got a bit of stick yesterday for my high opinion of Ash yesterday - I think he is our best player since Barnesey and I still do.

But if he isn't, who is?

Macca if he continues to improve will be better - Ash has been a bit dissapointing this season IMO

Moose, you'll be in a position to claim that once he's had more than one good season.

I've only followed the club a mere 14 years but in that time no one has been near where Ash is - and he's still improving.

Bouazza, Macca and maybe Theo Robinson all have the talent - but so far Ash is the only one I know of who's developed beyond talent.

yeah, i think that too. although technically youngs crossing and freekicks are good, bouazza is faster, stronger and has a good shot on him. Boozers immense!!!

I pretty much agree, Bouazza is a constant threat. His pace and power is incredible and has been much more impressive this season.

    Different positions have different attributes.

Gibbo was one of the best right backs in the world despite being overlooked by England... witness di Canio's frustration.

Gifton was maturing into a great striker until he got crocked.

Marlon is in the Luther class of strikers... witness his wonderful goal early this season (can't remember against who) where he was positioned terribly and the ball was coming to him all wrong and he managed to kick it just right so it would bounce and go in... most strikers would have tried to wallop it and have skied it to Row ZZ. It looked ugly but it scored.

Slater was probably a better winger, but had injury problems.

Hyde was a better distributor of the ball.

Ashley is a really good goal-scoring winger and that is pretty rare and very valuable when they happen. Cally was a better crosser than Barnes, but Digger could score as well and so won the plaudits.

I personally think that he is NOT great at either scoring or crossing and 7 Million Quid is probably a great deal for us. This is not to say that we should be glad to see him go, but the club will benefit more from the lucre than from the player. In my opinion, he is not a game winner. Marlon is. Foster is. Bouazza is starting to look like he might be. It sounds like Hoskins might be if he can cope with the Premiership. Aidy obviously thinks that Collins John is.

I look on it that a game winner is a player who is noticed when they are missing. Games are won when they play and lost when they don't. This is not the case with Ashley. He helps, but he does not rule.

IMO there is no way you can compare Ashley to Bouazza!

Yes, Bouazza has had a great season so far but he has been nowhere near as consistently effective as Ash has been and does not have the end product that Ash has.

Although I believe Ash will get even better at least he has proven himself over 2 seasons and not just half a dozen games.

Having said that, he is replaceable and I would certainly take 8 Mill + for him.

not only is hameur better than young. so is king, macca, doyley, demerit and, dare i say it, foster. young had half a good season and has been pretty ineffective this season. for pure talent you need look no further than gifton pre-butler. wow

Doyley, Macca and Gifton eh? Perhaps we can get 7m for the first two also.

Its kind of hard to say Ash has been ineffective wheen he is out top scorer. And he should have had five - re Tottingham.

Aving a laugh, SURELY!!! Against Fulham (H) he was outstanding and single handedly rescued a point for us when the rest of the team looked shot! He was clinical against Middlesbrough, Unlucky (Free Kick) against Wigan (not that that matters now!) and in the majority of games he has looked our most Dangerous player. I think this point was highlighted most when we played Sheff Utd at home, we looked awful and created nothing, no co-incidence that Young was out.

I think Young is well over priced but there is no doubt he has been quality for us and its easy to jump on the bandwagon and play down his efforts when it looks as though he will probably go.

I still like the idea of the Routledge and Davenport deal with a at least 3 million thrown in, for me that would be a steal!

    You're stupid ;o) - kidding.

    In some areas for sure.

He's quicker and stronger whereas Ash is technically better with a better shot. And Ash is two-footed more or less.

Most clubs want Ashley because of what he CAN be, not necesarily on what he has done this season. His price has grown because of the desperation of other Premiership teams. Teams these days want to snap up young English players and will pay ridiculous amounts of money to do so. Look at the likes of Walcott and Bale, as soon as one club is interested there is suddenly a mad rush.

On the question of who is the better player - Bouazza or Young, I would have to say that on current form it is Bouazza. However Young has all the capabilities to be a much better player, and is likely to be playing at the highest level for a long long time.

May well be playing at the highest level but if he goes elsewhere he wil find him self being a bench warmer! Meaning he gets less premiership experience leading onto him not fulfilling his potential....
