Should Taylor return to Boro in January, perfect replacement?

Out-of-favour Leicester City left-back Bruno Berner expects to leave the club in next month's transfer window as he wants regular first-team football.

The Switzerland international, 33, has lost his place to on-loan Manchester City full-back Greg Cunningham.

Berner told BBC Radio Leicester: "I am still desperate to play. It looks like in January I am looking for a move.

"I am ambitious and too proud to sit on the bench, sit on a contract, take the money and be happy. I cannot do that."

Although Berner featured in new manager Sven-Goran Eriksson's first few games in charge in October, he has not played since the Carling Cup defeat against West Brom at the end of that month.

"Leicester did offer me a contract extension but I'm not happy because I am not playing," Berner added.

"I want to play regular, first-team football. There is still a huge desire and ambition."

But the former Blackburn Rovers defender said any move away from the club he joined in 2008 would be made reluctantly.

"It is more that I have to move than I want to move," he explained. "I don't really want to end the chapter with Leicester but I have no choice.

"I have invested too much in my career just to accept the conditions right now. I am desperate to play.

"It does hurt because I feel so comfortable and happy here at Leicester.

"I would love to stay in English football but if I do not have options then I might have to look wider."

Berner, who has won 16 international caps, insisted he will still be committed to the Foxes and will be ready if needed.

"I am still a Leicester player," Berner added.

"I am a professional and if Sven calls me to play then I want to be ready. I owe that to my team-mates and to the supporters. I am still a proud Leicester player."

And although realistic, Berner said he has not totally given up hope on winning back his place.

"Things can change dramatically in football and I am ready for that if needed but I am looking at the bigger picture," he said.

Ageing, almost definitely overpaid... seems like the sort of player we would've gone for under Aidy...

To a point, I agree with jharding- but he does seem to have a sense of maturity and want to play rather than sit and collect the money. I suspect he'd be happy to get paid less and do more work- which is surely something to make the most of!

    Simply won't happen.

If Taylor who I rate highly doesn't have his loan renewed, It'll be Hodson who steps in.

I'd like to see Doyley given a run at left back.

Overrated and overpaid as other people have already said, I can't see why Andrew Taylor's loan won't be extended.

Because he's proving himself to be a very good player in this league and Boro are doing rather sh*t?

    Beat me to it.

He's the best left back we've had since Robbo.
