Enjoy every single precious moment of being a Parent, it's a truly wonderful gift.

  2. Thankfully not, but given that she was only around 18 months old at the time, I doubt she remembers.

Although the epic clean-up operation probably explains her fear of garden hoses...

Agreed about not needing to spend big. Ahead of a Christmas market trip to the cobbled streets of Nuremberg we didn't want to buckle the pram we had bought so I went to a nearly new NCT sale and bought a stroller for £10. A really tatty thing with the idea being to use it whilst away for a few days, run it into the ground and then bin it. It turned out to be indestructible and it's been on several different holidays and no matter what I did to it the thing stayed solid. It is in the loft now ready for when my sister has kids but it has proved to be a brilliant buy.

Congrats @Reggy . The baby and toddler years are definitely hard work - then, suddenly, you find yourself with a 14 year old and you wonder why an earth you ever complained about the baby and toddler years!

Obviously the chaps on here are in a much better position to offer fatherhood advice - and you've got some good tips so far. As a mum, the biggest tip I would give you and your Mrs is to take no notice of all the "experts" - whether they are talking from the pages of a book or they are people you know. Trust your instincts and don't worry when you feel like you have no clue whether you're doing things "right" - every first time parent feels this way, no matter what anyone says. Also, don't get obsessed with getting the baby in a fixed routine. You'll always meet those who claim to have got little George sleeping through the night within 2 days thanks to the rigid routine they've nailed. It's nonsense - you and the baby will settle into a routine that suits you both in your own time. Also, a support network of friends/fellow mums is essential for your Mrs, especially once you go back to work. Looking after a newborn can be mind-numbingly boring, no matter how much you love them.

Tangentially, I did notice that Burnsy is peeking at the forum.

    Excellent!

Enjoy your last free bachelor night.

We won every match during your period of Peak Defecation.

And you didn’t defect/defecate to Fulham.

    Reggy, fantastic.

Any thoughts on when you’ll take them to their first match?

    I was 7 & my lads were 7 & 10.

Beat Colin’s Palarse & they always assume we’ll win.

Agree with this... we did both but you will keep in more contact with the NCT group.

Trick is not to be concerned if Bill and Jane from Nascot Wood's little Jimmy is quicker at walking/talking/pooing in the right place... every ones kid grows up at their own speed. Just make the most of it... due to my childhood I put everything into my own family first... so bang went the ST till she is old enough to come along too.

You will need these new friends. Your old friends will leave you the minute you start talking about nappies, sleepless nights and singing "the wheels on the bus go round and round".....

Well, until the teenage years then it can get a bit s**t for a while until you learn you cannot win, ever. After you realise that then harmony is quickly restored.

Thanks for all the advice, I’ve learnt a lot here. Really can’t contain my excitement - I was warned to not tell anyone after we found out about the sex of the baby a few weeks ago. To my own annoyance, I’ve told everyone.

    It’s pretty hard keeping secrets!

Always thought "Kevin The Teenager" was a massive exaggeration until I found myself the parent of his female equivalent.

Not sure why everybody on here is lying to you. It’s well rubbish being a parent.

Hardest but best thing you’ll ever do. I have a 10 month old, first few months was a real struggle but now it’s great fun!
