    I loathe that advert!

What a self-absorbed, poncy, pretentious, condescending company Apple is.

    'iPad is magical' *puke*.

I hate Apple, and I hate anyone who buys an iPad. Unless they are from Harpenden, in which case I understand the need to show it off on the golf course.

    Bloody Apple.

Just bought an iPad. It's just like a giant iPhone, but you can't make calls.

No, wait, it's exactly like an iPhone.

The ipad would be absolutely perfect with a couple of additions.

    a keyboard
    interface ports
    a decent operating system

Oh wait, why not get a PC laptop for half the price?

I've got an incentive on some product at work to get an Ipad or a laptop of equivalent value. So it's either a giant phone which won't fit in my pocket, or a wizbanging laptop I could probably run a nuclear power station from.

    Hmmmm. Decisions decisions.

No hate here, have been known to fondle a single mouse button myself.

It's the way Apple and Apple products are worshipped as a religion that irks me somewhat. Their marketing machine is second to none and they are very clever at locking you into their products whilst avoiding anti-competition laws. You buy into a lifestyle rather than buy a product.

In some people's eyes Apple can do no wrong, and they invented everything whereas in actual fact they've bought/borrowed and possibly in some cases stolen (see multiple lawsuits still ongoing) other peoples ideas. Granted they've probably made stuff look nicer and work simpler together.

It's good that they exist to give Bill gates a bit of competition, it keeps the industry innovating, but I also think their domination of the MP3 player market is damaging. i-pod and i-tunes are not the best products out there, but massively out-sell the competition, it worries me that the mobile phone could go the same way.

    Oh, that's perfectly understandable.

But the amount of ill-educated idiots that just disregard and dislike Apple because of many reasons, but usually I find because they can't afford one (not talking as a snob), from experience. People at school would slate them till the cows came home, as soon as they went to uni and got a loan or mummys gave them some money, they bought a Macbook and thought the sun shon out of Apples arse.

A lot of people seem to be completely Anti Apple as opposed to pro-Product too, see the HTC brigade at the moment, sure, they're a brilliant phone but they're being overhyped a lot because of the mongclown army who are buying them purely in protest against Apple! (Someone on one of my owners clubs, whilst on his way to work on the tube tapped someone using an iPad on the shoulder just to call him an iFag!!!)

For the record, I'd say the iPod is the best product out there for MP3 Players taking everything (not just function) into account. The Macbook and iMacs are always going to do very well because of their 'prestige' factor, as if it's some kind of ambition to own one in your life for a lot of people. Plus they're a lot more affordable now than they used to be, especially with Apples various generous discount schemes. The compatibility issue is virtually inexistant and they do just work, no security issues, no freeze issues, a good home computer plus more.

As for the iPad, remains to be seen, I get the gist that it's supposed to compete with Netbooks or replace the PDA or something like that, but it says a lot that just about every manufacturer has paniced into developing their own alternative to rival Apple now.

Good. I buy my phones and run them for about 5 years. As I'm on a pay as you talk tariff and have very few friends:sad1: it's the cheapest option, greener too.

Currently have an HTC touch HD although I'd probably go for an Android powered phone next time.

    I got one.
    I like it.

It is a giant iPod touch.

My thinking for buying went like this:
I want something smaller and newer to do inner webs on the sofa at night.
I liked the net books because they are cheap and smallish but didn't like the need to rely on myself to antivirus and whatnot.
The extra $200 for the iPad wasn't a big reach so I got it.

Downside: my wife plays giant Solitaire on it any time I walk out of the room.

I typically sit on the sofa with a Mac in my lap roasting/scorching my balls. The iPad is much lighter and cheaper than my Mac and doesn't generate any heat, so that is a huge plus. The battery lasts a lot longer than my Mac or p.c. laptop. Typing is not weird on it, which was not expected. The only thing awkward about it is that the clamshell of a laptop is missing so it makes it hard to see the screen while you type or keep it steady on your lap while you view.

PS Potguy, you should stop watching tv. All commercials irritate me like that, and shutting the piece of crap down proved to be an excellent way to handle it.
