If you do you'll eventually get a visit from the PRS police. They called our small design studio and innocently asked if we listen to the radio. Two days later a bill arrives for about £100 plus one for last year.
When I don't want to talk to my colleagues, (often), then I'll bring out the ipod. What do you listen to? If it's independent then I presume they pay all royalties? What exactly are you paying for?
Personal music players are fine - it's when radio is played openly to everyone and no one in particular that a licence has to be bought.
nope, most big companies will not pay out the £100 for the license fee. and if you play the radio without the license it is a £1000+ fine.
We had a call recently come through. I just blagged it off and said Na, we don't listen to the radio here. Then they asked what the music in the background was to which I just turned the radio off and said my head phone of my ipod must be to close to the phone. They fell for it.
What's the legality of people who pay the licence fee, listening to radio Podcasts at work or listening to radios on their phones?
after a little research I found this http://news.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/hi/the_p_word/newsid_7457000/7457376.stm got to pay up, just going to try to delay it now til next year.
OK, what about Classic FM and talk radio? In the former, the composers have been dead for hundreds of years, so there is no copyright and the latter has no music? Don't fugging give them a penny Berks! We'll find a loophole and then you can dive right through it.
cheers moogie, i'll hold them off while you rescue me. They called the office three days in a row! once your on the swines' radar you're fooked.
I think that would be worse. From what that article says, it sounds like even a sole trader who listens to the radio at work would be expected to pay.
Oh, I didn't read the article, I just thought if only one person is listening it's not a public performance. Anyway, haven't they already been paid by the radio station?
Does the music actually go to the artist? How does that work logisically? for example, my dad likes Greek Radio (though he doesn't listen to it at work as he doesn't get a signal in his shop). Would they track down the Greek artists and pay them royalties for their music?
maybe it increases the payments they get anyway from prs for radio plays by a small fraction every time a new license is issued and paid for.
the majority of `artists` deserve to starve anyway , lets hope more and more people have the god damn cheek to listen to the radio at work
they play music at plaistow underground station - it is suppossed to having a calming effect on the public yobs, rapists and general barbarian daily occurances - personally think 10 cops and a machine gun would have the right effect. - i wonder if tfl pay prs? do buskers need to have a prs licence? why pay a licence most of the songs are scummin repeats!
