Saturday night we decided to have a takeaway curry, so I tried a place not far from me that does takeaway only. As I hadn't used them before I didn't have a phone number or menu, so decided to visit and order. Ordered the food and was told it would be about 20 minutes, no problem, plenty of mags to read. As I sat there the phone rang and the old bloke behind the counter started to take the order, he repeated it all back as the person was ordering. The person ordering obviously used a card to pay as the guy started repeating the number as he read it out, then the expiry date, then the security code, then the address! Before I received my order there had been 2 more calls, 1 of which I also heard all the card details and address. Anyone else coming to the World Cup now? 1st class?
That's pretty bad. Should be reported to the place that they need to change their process. I'll PM you with my preferences regarding seating, hotel etc.
No chance, but it's probably wise to always pay in cash when the driver turns up, never by card over the phone. I suspect it's not the only place.
a lesson well learnt. i guess you could ring up a mate and tell to get in and collect in the name of whoever you heard on the phone.
A tip for some people. Be wary of ordering a take away by credit card at a well known Watford curry house near a bingo hall around the town centre. (could call them a bunch of thieves) Twice I've had someone use my card details to buy phone credit a day after using the card to order from their. Shame, as its a bloody nice curry there, so cash only people
Pretty typical.. A reputable branded petrol garage in St Albans/Harpenden has been known to have been a bit dodgy with card details, flights being booked with the details that are swiped, some dodgy people out there.
Petrol stations are notorious for this. The only time I suffered credit card fraud was after I had called the card issuer to change my postal address. They asked for all of my details, password etc. which I though was a little odd but as I had called them thought there was no problem. six and a half thousand pounds worth of union fees paid to a well know newspaper in regular £400 odd chunks sometimes multiples in a day. The thing that annoys me is in the past I've had payments refused because they looked "dodgy" (getting a printer delivered to work instead of home for example), but mulitple payments to the same source over a number of days was passed. They were obviously embarrassed about it because They waived the charges immediately and despite promises never told me where the fraud had taken place, would have been pretty easy to tie the payments up with the union membership fee as well.
By the truck stop, just down from the lovely Wagon and Horses? I use this one all the time as the Total garage in my village done me for 3,500k right at the beginning on the month a few years ago, meaning i almost defaulted my mortgage payment! I must admit, I always use cash there but I will remember not to use my card there in future then!
