As the title says. One of the best goal celebrations ever seen at The Vic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5asfIBHn4Cw&feature=relmfu I remember the Wobby on the friday saying there would be a full investigation into the pitch invasion and I spent the next week or so sh1ttin myself.
I used to sit towards the back of the Vic Road so never got involved with the pitch invasions. I remember we used to have a few.
I didn't understand that either - surely, if anyone, LTFC are the Erics? Luton fans in the Rookery - should never have been allowed.....
That year/match was one of our low points-relegated with them back in May (despite GT returning in Feb) we were in Div 2 and not doing well-they were near the top (eventually getting in the playoffs but losing) and so 14,000 were there compared to 8,000 or 10,000 at these home games in the previous three years. It was a forerunner to the league Cup game trouble 6 years later in that we would allow them thousands of tickets and make them so welcome (ie Rookery -but to be fair our "end" was then the Vicarage Rd "Paul Furlong stand") they would descend in droves whereas our 1,500 away would be cramped in the O..R... end. Still less than a year later-in fact 4/10/07 (i happen to recall for some reason-maybe cos i was there) we got that famous 4-0-from then on marked their decline into pub football and our rise to the Premier league/Div1
48, thanks for the history lesson, but given your forum name I am sure we date from the same era. My first derby game was the 1-0 defeat on 12 Dec 1970 when Mike Keen scored for LTFC and I haven't missed one since, including all those 0-1 defeats and 4 Oct 1997. For me the Rookery is our home end and the club should never have put away fans in there (remember the seasons when away fans were given Rookery - our only covered terracing - while we stood in the rain?)
The previous year (I think) when we lost 2-4 and Morallee scored the opener and the Scu* were in the lower rous there was a great pitch invasion. After that game they kept Luton in and then the ticket office was at the back of the vic and there was cash sales for an away game, and when they Luton out the was about 50 Watford left to get all the stick, not nice! The year after that game we equalised in the last minute and another pitch invasion, got nicked that time ! Stuck in the back of meat wagon with the sc** Happy days!
I remember it well. I was already resigned to another painful defeat to the scum and was in fact in the concourse on my way out when this almighty roar went up. I ran back into the stand along with many others and swear that I almost ended up on the pitch within 10 seconds flat. Just the sheer relief of not losing again to those pike ***** felt better than a winning goal in the world cup final. Then waiting to goad the gutted looking scummers afterwards, lovely. If ever a draw felt like a win.
I remember the match, but teh first time I was allowed to go to a game against the scum was a 1-1 bore draw the following year.
