All good points, good thinking. I went to give blood once a few years ago, only to find that I wasn't allowed as I had been in Malaysia for 3 months and returned to the UK a week or so before. At least I know now!

Yes i've effectively been in a contamination period for the last few years due to charity work in Uganda and generally being in East-Africa. It's only in the last few months that I can donate (although I've now been taken off the register)

Uganda eh? I'm studying Uganda a lot recently. What did you make of the country, and where were you based?

Best wishes to the little lad as well. Haven't posted on this thread before, but have kept track of it and appreciate the updates.

Full respect to anybody who puts themselves forward to help out.

I love Uganda, really interesting place. I've been there a couple of times as a volunteer but also leading the work. Well I was based near Murchison falls, in the Bulisia sub-district, one of the schools I worked with was 2 minute walk to Lake Albert so in the evening you could watch the sun go down over the mountains of the Congo. I've spent some of the weekends in Masindi, three in Murchison itself plus I’ve spent about 6 weekends in Kampala and Jinja. I've also been to the East to Lake Bunyonyi (near Kabale)- which is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been, before going into Rwanda and Tanzania and then been to Mbale to go abseiling and trek some of Mount Elgon before heading into Kenya.

Well I'm just really sorry I couldn't volunteer to give blood-that's more self-less. I really enjoyed my time in Africa whereas people who do more self-less acts for chairty such as donating blood etc they get far less back from it so they do the more chritable (in terms of selfless) acts

Enjoying doing something doos doesn't make it any less good.

I think if a dozen people sign up to be regular blood donors on the back of this thread, it will be the most positive thing to come out of a football forum.

I'm unavailable to give blood on Saturday as I'm working all day, however I'm planning on registering for a slot elsewhere in Watford or next time they're at ASDA.

I've only just read this thread. My heart goes out to this little chap and I send all my best wishes of course and hope his course of treatment is successful.
