Following on from that tweet on WD yesterday, rumours abound that he's off to Toon EDIT: Clubcall are reporting on this now... https://www.clubcall.com/watford/anya-facing-uncertain-watford-future-1823730.html
Our weakest position for cover Janmaat and Holebas are excellent wing backs Have seen virtually nothing of Zuniga and nothing of the Deja fella, whilst Anya is a tryer but short on talent at this level
I think now would be a natural time to thank him for his work over the last 4 years and let him leave. He's simply not good enough for the level we aspire to be at any more.
Atsu is joining them from Chelsea, I doubt they would see Anya as a full back so I reckon just rumours.
Agreed. It always depresses me to see him come on as a sub as you know it'll make no difference whatsoever. He tries hard and seems like a nice guy, but it's time to send him to the knackers yard.
Could the deal for Kenedy be back on to replace him? I see Chelski are chasing James Rodríguez from Madrid
Probably a good move financially, but they have a good squad and I can't see him being an automatic starter. In my view Celtic would be better fit as he would get his only chance of Champions League football, better able to maintain his International place and his pace will probably be more effective in a generally crap league.
Kenedy does, yes. Anya is homegrown though, and because of the silly match day quota, is in most of out match day squads. I think we will have to sign a HG replacement therefore.
It's a fair point but i think we're probably still ok on that front with Troy, Watson, Sinclair & Cathcart. We only need 2 in the match day squad i think (if that's still a thing). At a push we could name Gilmartin on the bench if we're desperate.
We don't need any in the match day squad. I think you're confusing Football League rules with Premier League rules. The PL rules simply mandate the number you can name in your squad. That's it. There's no obligation to pick them at all, although clearly if you want the full 7 subs on the bench at least one must be homegrown.
I have to agree. Sad to see him leave but doesn't add much to the squad these days. I think we do need another HG player. Shame the ones we know about will be expensive, I wouldn't mind Hendrick or Will Hughes from Derby, but would probably have to settle for being on the bench.
He's not good enough to start consistently in the PL. That said, he's an adequate fill in at either fullback spot (if we used those) and as a right sided wingback. I'd just as soon keep him. If I never see him try and hit another left footed cross it will be too soon,.
or dismantling their own work anyway. With Vydra & Abdi already gone I think Anya is now the last of The Pozzo's initial 1st season influx. Everyone else has arrived since or was already here.
Byeeee. Although genuine thanks, been a very handy player and like it or not he's played a big part in getting us to where we are now. He's just not quite good enough anymore though.
Will always remember his touch for that goal. The way he brought the ball down was a thing of beauty. Ive always complained about his final ball, but you cannot doubt the lad for effort. He gave 100% everytime he was on the pitch and will be a very useful player in the championship. He just couldnt cut it in the premiership. Best of luck Ikechi.
Was always a big fan of him from day one. His story was quite inspiring. Hope he and Vydra have great success at Derby. Certainly another reason to watch the Championship.
