Multiple fatalies confirmed at a video game tournament in Jacksonville.

I know the forum has been over the topic of US gun control laws in the past, but I literally cannot believe how this continues to happen and be ignored wholesale by the powers that be in the US. It is not even a problem unique to the Trump Administration, the Obama even introduced less gun control laws than Bush.

How do you solve a problem like this?

Banning video game tournaments is the obvious step.

Expect Trump to come out with the old violent video games routine....its a shame then they were playing the new Madden.

Arm the pupils and teachers, in fact give everyone a gun by their 2nd birthday.

Then put a 'Kill Responsibly' warning on every gun together with the killaware website.

The event was being live streamed on Twitch, and you can hear the shooter open up on the audio stream coupled with panic and the shrieks of some of the victims shot.

It's pretty sobering stuff, to put it mildly. Below link is definitely NSFW; one of the players in the below game, Trueboy, was one of those shot dead. I'd suggest you avoid listening if you're of a more delicate persuasion.

Nothing will be done about it; meanwhile, guns are banned in the Houses of Congress. Hypocrites.

It's ingrained into the American way of life, it'll never change so there's no point stressing over it. On a forum I used to hang out even the more sensible amongst them boasted of having "carry" permits and would routinely go shopping with a gun inside their jacket. It's f*****g crazy.

On that clip you can clearly see the laser sight being aimed at his chest just before the first shot happens.

Perhaps as crazy as you might think. Contrary to popular belief, most Americans don't own a firearm; they're concentrated in a (sizable) minority who own a metric crapton of them. Some could literally outfit a small army with the firepower they own privately.

The crux of the problem is that the current (modern, Conservative) interpretation of the Second Amendment makes taking any form of action borderline impossible. A constitutional amendment isn't remotely likely given the requirements for it to be ratified, so you have the current ****-show state of affairs.

The sheer ridiculousness of the situation is highlighted by the fact Republicans insist it's not a gun issue, it's a mental health issue....before relaxing federal restrictions on gun purchases by the mentally ill shortly after Trump got sworn in. It's farcical.

I think public opinion is slowly moving, but until the boomers have died off there's just no chance whatsoever. After that, I guess we'll see.

...and that's why it's so essential that they should all have their own guns to protect themselves from this sort of evil. In fact probably best to always carry one around, loaded and immediately available in a holster. Keep it within arms reach when you have a bath and under your pillow at night just to ensure you're 100% safe.

    This graphic is telling though,

I assume the "Legal interventions" are where gun owners shot and killed a shooter, the self defence argument completely falls flat.

I’ve seen a few arguments suggesting people in Maine need guns anyway, to protect themselves from Moose (not our one, I don’t think) and Bears.

Apparently there had never been a fatal Bear attack in Maine, most likely because the Bear has spotted the guns.

I hear the bears have just voted overwhelmingly to arms themselves for their own protection though !

The right to bear arms is a key US constitutional right, so it makes sense for the bears to want protection from humans like this:

Does the Constitution give people the right to own bullets? We need a Supreme Court ruling, but only when the Trump appointees have left.

I work with someone who was just telling everyone how he almost put a hole in the way because one of his daughter's toys started making talking noises in a darkened room while on a shelf.

He didn't seem to register how utterly horrifying that was; it was presented as amusing.

Yeah I saw that! Caught red handed and exemplary justice applied. An insider job too it appears.

In seriousness, one huge advantage of Cuba is that it is safe. An oasis of calm for the past 60 years in comparison with the rest of Latin America and the Caribbean. No gangs. No drugs. No mass shootings.

People sometimes say oh Cuba is a police state and there are plenty around definitely BUT those same complainers would probably be very happy to have 2 cops standing on the corner of their home street on a regular basis..
