Unfortunatley I didnt get the job at Holiday Inn, but In 3 hours I have an interview for Clinton Cards. When being asked in my last interview "why do you want to work for us" I found it quite easy to answer but as I have no intention of working for Clinton Cards in two years im not too sure what say other than, I want to gain experience working in the Retail industry". Can anyone help?

Also, I understand its always good to ask questions at the end, but I only have two in mind. " what are the roles and respnsibilities" and " do I need any training"

    Any others?

    Cheers

Good luck, just be very confident when you walk in, a firm handshake and lie through your teeth about how much of a dream job this would be for you.

Do you have any concerns that I need to clear up in order to be the top candidate?

Just my 2 cents. You're working in a clinton cards shop right? And you're going to ask your role and responsibilities? Surely you've seen a job description? I gather you'll going for the basic sales assistant-esque role, so obviously your responsibilites and role will be to serve customers (on shop floor, and possible on till) refill shelves and maintain them (People take cards, look at them then put them back in the wrong place) So to me this question could be deemed as a tad dull or possibly stupid. Plus, everyone will be asking that won't they? Think outside the box. Possibly ask about the stock they sell, be unique. Apart from cards, whats your next biggest selling item? Doesn't matter whether you actually care about it or not.

Why do you want to work at Clintons? Yes, retail experience is one of the reasons, plus, you'll be on the shop floor, face to face with customers. Make yourself become the people person, you love interacting and helping customers. You'll be in a team - You thrive being in a team. You played football as a kid and this is where you team player mentality came from.

Why Clintons? What does Clintons offer which the shoe shop with the acrobat monkey in the window doesn't? Seasons and events. You get the buzz and excitement of Christmas, you see the excitement on kids faces etc. Sell yourself and be unique.

    Just a few ideas.

    Best of luck.

But if it's sales assistant he's going for they'll realise he's bullshi*tting or think he's mental.

It's called showing enthusiasm and initiative nascot, and if he wants the job he will have a better chance if he does, even if you consider it is a naf job, the employer will not :dismay:

As they say from little acorns mighty oaks grow, who knows if he gets the job he may one day be the MD for the company, but he has to get the job first!!!

Why do you want to work at Clintons?

A well know trusted retail brand, backed by a solid business. Good retail experience and training with the possibilities to progress in the corporation that you wouldn't get with any old shop job.

Don't try and lie about always being interested in the company or greetings cards, but big up their reputation instead.

Oh and good luck. Even if it's not the ideal role, it's easier to get a job, from a job.

Where did I say I think the job is naf? Stop trying to start an argument.

I don't disagree with showing enthusiam, too many people think they can get through life with showing any and expect everything to fall in to place. My point is if he goes in to what could be (note, could be) a low level job within the firm they may question ambition if the shop floor is a dream job. By all means though, have enthusiam, look excited, be interested but don't show them a potential lack of ambition.
