Should any animals, now extinct in the UK, be introduced?

If ‘yes’ which animal would be your favourites to reintroduce from those below. Maybe you have another to propose?

More so the birds (as they are less dangerous to humans) would be a welcome for most. Nothing against Wolves either, as long as they remain within their living environment and are never disturbed. Bears we just do not have the realestate for over here like the do in the US. Elks are pretty rare so it would be cool to see one I guess.

Who said "no" to Velociraptor?? That would be awesome to see, albeit from a safe distance.

I think the foxes in my neighbourhood could do with a predator. But I’m not sure if wolves is the answer for Shepherds Bush.

I guess you are unable to include "Moose" given I presume they were never here ?!

PS Elk are not the same as moose before anyone smart suggests !

Another animal was the Irish elk, also called the Giant deer. Bigger than a contemporary elk.

Velociraptor fossils were found on the Isle of Wight. I think a limited reintroduction would be just the thing to add a frisson of excitement to the place.

The Scotland Highlands does have sufficient space for bears. There is a lot of it even north of Inverness with very few people in it. It also has a lot of sheep and other livestock, so bears and wolves likely to be unpopular.

But there is space for big animals. Wild Boar have re established themselves in areas as small as the Forest of Dean.

Are you crowdfunding this by any chance?

We need a few carnivores to control the deer populations which are out of control and decimating new tree growth putting the future of woodland at risk. https://cdn.forestresearch.gov.uk/2000/01/fcin036.pdf
However there is no chance of bears, large cats, wolves etc being reintroduced due to the danger to people and livestock in this sanitized land. It's no surprise such animals are at risk across all of their European range.

How about humans? Venison is delicious and hunting is a fun activity for the whole community. :D

Yes but we kill LESS than we need to in order to keep an equilibrium, esp in the remote tough to get to areas. We need to kill considerably more but the gen public don't like to see sweet deer being shot by marksmen !!

There's definitely room for a few bigger predatory mammals up in the highlands, and they would definitely help in the management of those environments -

And need to add sturgeon to the list.

I've had this argument many times. In America an Elk and Moose are different types of deer, in Norway and Sweden what you would call a Moose are called an Elg in Norway and Älg in Sweden which is translated as Elk. So in America its a Moose in Scandinavia its an Elk take your pick.

    Definitely Velociraptor.

I would suggest we start by reintroducing them at Boris Johnson's house first. Seems primed for such a thing.

Is what they did in Jurassic Park actually technically possible? I’m surprised someone somewhere hasn’t actually brought a dinosaur back, even if it is illegal.

No. We can't recover a gene sequence from insects trapped in amber and we wouldn't be able to repair missing pieces with frog DNA.

You might be able to build a really weird looking creature though? A pre historic wasp with frogs legs. Gotta be worth a go?

A bit like with UFOs, we aren’t being told everything. I’m pretty certain I saw a dodo in Cassiobury Park last week.
