Yes! He has done well at Hull since coming in and is good in the air. I think him and SP would be a good partnership.

    Cleaning up for TVOR again:

It seems that Inter Milan will have to find a solution for Andrea Ranocchia to leave the club once again.

After loaning the defender to Hull City in the January window, it sounded like the player was finally saying goodbye to the Italian club, where he wasn’t having much game time. But as reported by Calcio Mercato, Ranocchia will be returning to Inter Milan at the end of the season.

They say Hull City would certainly sign him permanently if they had remained in the Premier League, but after their relegation to Championship was confirmed, they won’t make an offer for the transfer.

It’s claimed Southampton would be interested after watching Ranocchia’s good spell at Hull, and even Walter Mazzari, who was already his manager at Inter Milan, would be keen on signing him for Watford.

The Serie A side reportedly want €12m for the transfer, something described as completely affordable for Southampton and Watford.

Hes decent enough but not better than what we have , therefore a no from me.

We need to be recruiting first team players only, we have far too many squad players

I have been criticised by people on here for not posting links, now I am being criticised for doing so.

reids, what is the purpose of "cleaning up for me", as you put it? It is totally unnecessary because people are quite capable of reading the link I posted without you regurgitating what the link has already told them

Because people don't want to click on links full of adverts/****. Copy/paste the text and provide a link so people can see where it's from and you'll be golden!

No way is he an upgrade on what we have. It's worrying some of the names we're being linked with, hopefully it's just media waffle. We have enough meh players who are brilliant once every 10 games, we need quality. Alright Pereyra wasn't phenomenal every game but he did the basics right every game, worked hard and kept the ball. That's the very least you get when you buy top players.

Apart from his massive faux pas against Palarse he's looked very good whenever I've seen him. IMO he is an upgrade on some of our current CBs. Good in the air, good technical ability on the ground. Mobile. Comfortable playing out from the back.

We can afford him. Walter likes him. I can see this happening.

Replacement for Britos or Cathcart or Kaboul or Mariappa or Kabesele? 4 of them seem to have a lot of injuries and none have looked that great. This has played well for Hull apparently and is good on the ball which is not something that can be said about any of the above. We have shipped a lot of goals this season so it's an area we need to improve on. Can we have Maguire as well

I agree, the centre backs at the club are not really good enough. There are all quite old and injury prone. Mazzarri's tactics using three at the back and zonal marking probably makes our players look worse than they are, but they all been found wanting and have made far too many mistakes.

Clearly we're not going to sell every central defender, but no one can really look back with any real pride, except maybe Prodl, and even he has made some right rickets this season.

I'd keep Cathcart and Mapps, as they fill the HG quota and we never fill these slots up. I'd keep Prodl, but the rest can all go as far as I'm concerned. None would get into a mid-table EPL side, and this is where we want to get to.

Not forgetting Hoban will be back

I've been casting envious eyes at him since he was at Hull and I heard he was popular there too. He's looked good.

However that tremendous gaffe to immediately deflate the balloon in one of their most important games of the season reminded me that he's getting on and he's not at his peak. I'd be looking four or five years younger than 31. Someone who's progressing rather than declining. Someone who can become a fixture in the team for a few seasons.

So, with reluctance, no thanks. Not even on a free.

Prodl, Cathcart and Kaboul (Assuming he's in a Back 4) would be OK in Mid Table side, but Britos and Mapps (Though would keep him to keep some good squad depth and HG) aren't mid table quality. Not sold on Kabesele either way, as we need need a pacey CB but don't trust him either. Add in Hoban who the club do rate very and that's decent CB depth, assuming they aren't all run into the ground.

Yes a back 3 of Agbo, Hoban and the young SA CB sounds the way to ensure a top half finish.

  24. ...yes and that would undoubtedly happen because we are clearly going to sell Kaboul, Cathcart, Britos, Prodl, Maps and Kabasele

any chance of this nobhead joining then? Sounds like just the ticket. Good looking too, which we badly need after the uglies we signed his summer.

The wikipedia blurb makes him sound tremendous, apart from the last bit which I've decided to ignore.

Ranocchia has been described as a large, strong, and physically imposing centre back, with good tactical knowledge and concentration, as well as an ability to read the game and time his tackles well. He has predominantly drawn praise for his aerial ability, making him a goal threat from set pieces, and former Inter centre back Marco Materazzi has described Ranocchia as his heir due to his own aerial prowess. A former attacking midfielder, he is also known for being comfortable in possession due to his solid technique and reliable distribution, which has led him to be compared to Alessandro Nesta. Regarded as one of the most promising Italian defenders of his generation in his youth,[26] former Inter full-back and captain Javier Zanetti has also praised Ranocchia for his leadership, which eventually saw him inherit the role of club captain. In recent seasons, however, Ranocchia has drawn criticism due to his decision making and proneness to errors when under pressure, as well as his lack of pace, as his fitness has been affected by several injuries.

I thought with your incredible football knowledge you wouldn't need anyone's help.

Could be true if this story is http://sportwitness.co.uk/former-liverpool-defender-martin-skrtel-key-watford-transfer/

Can't believe we'd consider selling Prodl but Silva might want more mobile centre backs. Whatever you think of Kaboul he's more mobile than Prodl and we have Kabasele to come back.

I've checked and Skrtel and Prodl do have the same agent so there may be some truth to this story and the Ranocchia one.
