One thing we do not realy want to do is stay in this division next season. So going up gets us a multi million pound cash flow which may or may not be spent any wiser or wrecklessly as our prior jaunt - it certainly lifts a huge short/medium term burden and no doubt would be used in part to finish the ground. Would that be good and acceptable and would you be angry if the wages and player purchases were the same as the prior visit money wise.

Staying in this division next season with out a parachute payment and on the wages and purchase price of players required to be paid in this division to mount any reasonable assault on the premeirship would probably come close to bankrupting us ( without further investment/director, board support or new wealthy owners).

So would releagtion be a safer option for the future security of the club, where running costs, player costs are considerably smaller and where our fringe and squad youngsters could poshsibly perform to an acceptable standard of achievement ( Macca at swindon is doing pretty well by all accounts).

We can wait in league one for a white night, which would be a cheaper starting point to take the club forward and to greater sustained league status.

    Relegation really isn't our enemy!

Interesting view on it mate, but what if we have another cup run? We seem to have one every other season. So this is our season ;)

Time for us to do well in the league cup isn't it?

I don't think relegation would help us, i can see what you mean to an extent, but if we went down and still no one was interested that would leave us in an even worse position than we were in now imo...

Mainly though I wouldn't like to suffer another relegation to league 1, this past 15+ years have been constant ups and downs which is great (much more interesting), but now i'd just like a couple of years where we can end mid table and rebuild

    A good 'thought provoking' post.
    i) Promotion this year to resolve our financial problems- We were not in a good financial poisition last time we went up but due to some shrewd/quality loans e.g. Foster, King and Eagles plus decent purchases e.g Spring, Henderson, Mackay, Stewart, Carlisle added to our existing decent players e.g Young, Doyley, Mahon, Bouazza, Mcnamee etc all on a budget of 3.5m, but it happened. Now, for each player we want to bring in even on a free we have to get rid of 3 of the existing squad. The first X1 - 3 pre season friendly results against lower league oppostion also suggest to me this is not going to happen.
ii) Staying in this division - This division has crucified us again after a relegation, just like the ****** days - gambling on getting promoted. I do think we need to stay here though, mainly for the tv money ( which must be must be a lot higher than in div 1 due to the extra live tv coverage ) but also the extra income through gate receipts etc. Going to be hard.
iii) Relegation - Maybe a year too late for this option. I fear this would really do some damage if it happened this year. If it happened last year we would still have the parachute payment while we struggle to cut our costs by getting rid our unwanted / high earning players.
