Former Watford favourite Allan Smart is confident Adrian Boothroyd's men can beat relegation this season.​

Striker Smart helped the Hornets gain promotion to the top-flight in the 1999/2000 season with the clinching goal in their 2-0 play-off final victory over Bolton.

He said: "I believe that the current Watford side are a better team than their present position in the table suggests. They have lost only eight games this season, which is the same number as Reading, who are eighth.

"I think that demonstrates how the margins involved in winning and losing in the top-flight are minuscule.

"The hardest part is maintaining that upbeat focus when you are going long spells without a win.

"This is something that I admire in Boothroyd, he oozes optimism, and has a great mental strength and focus so I'm sure his impact is magnified in the dressing room."

 

He's not hoping for a return is he?

A few lovely finishes! Paticualrly the Chelski one at home and i remember a nice finish up at Everton!

I thought Helguson was the top goal scorer that season with Ngonge 2nd and Smart 3rd?

He used to drink in my local in Amersham when he was playing for us. Had a night out with him one evening and he is an absolute nightmare when he's had a drink

He got charged for resisting arrest and assaulting a copper a few years ago whilst at Oldham.

Made me want to watch the Bolton play-off final win. Very likeable team back then with some real favourites. However, we had some hideous kits in that era!!!
