AFTER watching another win this Saturday for his squad in their pre-season campaign, Watford boss Malky Mackay couldn't have wished for a better start to his managerial career.

The former Watford defender praised his teams' performances and their work in training over the last few weeks.

"When you see Danny Graham come into the club and immediately make an impact in terms of goalscoring then that always helps and it's also good to see Tamas scoring goals.

"Obviously you want to make sure that the lads can play together and they can all play off each other so it was very pleasing to see that at Wealdstone and Boreham Wood.

"The players' work ethic has been great.

"I want to impress upon them that when we are at the training ground, we are there to work.

"We are working hard and it's nice and relaxed after that so that they enjoy coming into training every day, that's very important to me.

"It's something that the staff have embraced and the staff believe in totally and they are striving to make that happen every day."
he Scotsman told www.watfordfc.com that he was looking forward to his first pre-season tour as a manager.

"Some people say it's waste of time to go away and do your pre-season training trips but it's absolutely not.

"There are three or four reasons that the trip is imperative. We have a new group coming together with a new management team so you get time together to build relationships and you are at close quarters so you are able to train them in quality sessions with rest and recovery without domestic situations happening as they do.

"I flew out to Spain near the end of last season and looked at every aspect of the trip so I personally know about where we are going and everything about it.

"I know it's well organised" said Mackay.

"It gives us a chance to build rapport, build relationships among the players, among the players and the staff and also test ourselves in a couple of games against foreign opposition.

"The fact that you are actually playing against different types and different techniques I think is always going to help."

Those fans who made the short trip to Wealdstone at the weekend would have been greeted with a couple of unknown faces in the shape of French trialist Claudio Beauvue and new signing Jure Travner.

And these newcomers have made an instant impression on the boss.

"For me Jure looks as if he is a guy who can play in the Championship and that's what I wanted. He is committed and he is an athlete.

"He speaks perfect English and since he has been here he has been excellent in terms of his attitude and his application.

"He wants to come and play in England, he wants to come and play for Watford.

"He is absolutely delighted that he is here and he wants to make an impact in English football so that's something we want to give him the stage for and if it takes a little bit of time for him to bed into English football and the English way of training then so be it.

"I'm not expecting an immediate impact from him at all. But at Wealdstone, I was delighted with him."

"It's not easy for trialist Claudio Beauvue either" commented the Scotsman.
"I mean he comes across on trial and he's only been training a couple of weeks so to play as long as he played on Saturday was great.

"He has shown a good attitude and he'd only been with us a couple of days so I was delighted that we got him the ball.

"In the first half he was able to show some lovely touches and little flashes of something that I quite like."
